3. President’s Message
September 2, 2009
Welcome to the Pre-Conference Career Expo!
On behalf of the Executive Board and members of the National Black MBA Association, Inc.,
Washington, D.C. Chapter, I welcome you today to our Pre-Conference Expo.
This event serves as a precursor to our national association's Career Fair that will take place later
this month from September 24-25, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana. While many nonprofit
associations and other membership-based groups struggle to develop a strategy of how to keep
their members engaged in activities that will lead to new career opportunities, our chapter has taken
the lead in being proactive to assist our members who are transitioning during these hard economic
times. We have turned to corporations, such as the ones featured today who seek within their
respective organizations a pool of talented individuals, such as yourself, who possesses the
intellectual capital that will meet their needs. Therefore, I encourage you to meet as many of the
corporate representatives that you can, attend the plenary session, and take advantage of the services
offered to enhance your marketability.
I would like to thank our corporate partners Booz Allen Hamilton, Cox Communications, Freddie
Mac, Prudential, Sodexo, State Farm, and Volkswagen for being a part of this event. Additionally,
I would like to thank the Washington, D.C. Chapters of the Association of Latino Professionals in
Finance and Accounting, National Association of African Americans in Human Resources, and
National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. for collaborating with us on this event. Since our
chapter is run strictly by volunteers, we all must thank John James II, who leads our Career
Development/Network efforts. For without John managing this event, we would not be here today.
Enjoy the Expo!

President
4. Career Network Welcome
September 2, 2009

to welcome you to the 2009 Pre-Conference Career Expo! We are excited about today's event
and we hope to make your Career Expo experience an enjoyable and rewarding one.

in New Orleans later this month.
In addition, given the current state of the job market, we have put together a series of workshops
designed to provide you with additional resources and strategies to give you a competitive
advantage in the marketplace and bring you closer to your next career opportunity.
Thanks to all of our collaborative partners, participating employers and presenters for making the
Career Expo possible, and a special thanks to the Career Network Committee (Angela Thornton-

Based in the Washington, D.C metropolitan area, Harris ImageWorks, LLC is an image
consulting company founded by Annette Harris, for the express purpose of empowering men,
women, and organizations to sharpen their image in order to support the successful achievement
of their goals and objectives.
Harris ImageWorks the power of first impressions in this fast paced society where more often
than not you only have seconds to communicate the perception you desire. As one-dimensional
as it may seem, the fact remains that you are almost instantly judged based on the 3Ps: Polished,
Poised, and Professional. Although skills, knowledge and expertise are at play – they become
less relevant when you don’t properly display the 3Ps initially.
While some image consulting companies have an experience and knowledge base in the areas of
style, fashion, and appearance; and others focus on business communications and presence,
Harris ImageWorks has the experience and knowledge base to cater to both. This is key because
it’s all about a “total package.”
Our target clients include corporations, business executives/professionals, attorneys, politicians
and their spouses, media personalities, and recent college graduates. If you come into contact
with the public, our services can support you in ensuring that you make a great first and lasting
impression!
