Backed up by proven Scientific studies, Carol Dweck explains that Intelligence is Malleable.
Years of research provide concrete data that when we struggle with problems, we actually grow. When you grapple with problems, you make new neural connections which makes you smarter.
8. How children coped with challenge and difficulty
• 10 years old kids were given problems
• Problems were slightly too hard for them
TWO SETS OF
CHILDREN WERE
FOUND PRESENT
IN THE CLASS -
BASED ON THEIR
REACTIONS
9. • "I love a challenge”
• Understood that their abilities
could be developed
• Felt it was tragic, catastrophic
• Their intelligence had been up
for judgment and they failed

GROWTH
MINDSET
10. What If they failed a Test?
• Failure = Not smart or talented
• Result oriented (Focus is on next A+)
• Cheat v/s Study – Children would CHEAT next
time
• Look for someone who did worse so that they
can feel good about themselves
• Run from difficulty
• Run from error
• Would not engage with problem
• Failure = Opportunity to grow
• Process oriented (Focus is on learning)
• Not discouraged by the failure
• Position themselves on a learning curve
• Process the errors
• Learn
• Correct it

Power of Yet

11. Brain Electrical Activity
Encounter with ERROR
• Hardly any
activity
• Do not
engage
• Run from
error
• Engage
deeply
• Brain is on
fire with
“YET”
• Process
ERROR,
LEARN &
CORRECT

15. FIXED MINDSET
• SMART AND TALENTED PEOPLE do not require to put in too much
effort & can easily handle difficulties while performing a task
• IF YOU ARE PUTTING IN EFFORT & FACING DIFFICULTIES, then
you are just like ORDINARY PEOPLE
GROWTH MINDSET
• Brain become stronger when it grapples with problems
• When you struggle, that’s when NEURONS are making new connection
• STRUGGLING makes you SMARTER
Transforming the meaning of
EFFORT & DIFFICULTY
16. PROCESS that
people engage in

PERSEVERANCE

Do not praise
INTELLIGENCE &
TALENT
17. REWARD “YET”
• Teamed up with game scientists from the
University of Washington to create a new
online math game that rewarded yet
• In this game, students were rewarded
for effort, strategy and progress
• The usual math game rewards you for
getting answers right, right now
• This game rewarded process
• RESULT - more effort, more
strategies, more engagement over longer
periods of time, and more perseverance
when they hit really, really hard problems
