3. An organic system is alive, ever
changing and adapting,
interdependent, unpredictable,
resilient, sustaining and sustainable.
Participation is not a choice
Leadership does not reside in a person
or team but in the whole group
Befriends confusion and sometimes
chaos
Outcomes are not predetermined
4. Requires letting go of

mindsets
Habitual behaviours

Requires suspending

What we already know
Organic - ‘relating to, derived from, or characteristic
of living things
5. Organic - ‘relating to, derived from, or
characteristic of living things’
Nature is the expert in organic organisation
6. External:
To strive for a just and compassionate
world where the rights of the whole
community of life (and the Earth) are
respected.
Our Purpose
Internal:
To be Passionists for our time
To support the transformation of the
congregation
9. HUBS
Hubs are task oriented groups e.g.
Finance, Process, Communication,
New Members, or new ministries
to name but a few.
Hubs are accountable to the whole
Zone group.
12. Seeing and operating from a new story
“In the twentieth century the glory of the human
has become the desolation of the Earth. The
Desolation of the Earth is now becoming the destiny
of the human.
All human institutions, professions, programs and
activities must now be judged primarily by the
extent to which they inhibit, ignore or foster a
mutually enhancing human-earth relationship.”
T Berry
Integrity of Creation
14. ‘The important thing is this; to be
able at any moment to sacrifice
what we are for what we could
become.’
Charles Du Bois
UNFINISHED, EVOLVING,
EVER-CHANGING
Editor's Notes
The greatest revolution of our time is in the way we see the world. The mechanistic paradigm underlying the industrial growth society gives way to the realisation that we belong to a living, self-organising cosmos. General systems theory, emerging from the life sciences brings fresh evidence to confirm ancient, indigenous teachings: the Earth is alive, mind is pervasive, all beings are our relations. This realisation changes everything. It changes our perceptions of who we are and what we need, and how we can trustfully act together for a decent, noble future. Johanna Macy
The work we have done on the universe story and the integrity of creation has been an inspiration and an invitation to us to expand our understanding of what it means to be organic.
Our world systems are based on a fixed view of the world where control, stability, independence, accumulation, have pride of place. There is little mutuality.
Our world systems - financial, economic, educational, health, welfare – don’t work
They do not serve
to stem the spread of hunger,
to address the conditions of deprivation such as poverty, war and HIV/AIDS or offer healthcare that addresses the root cause of symptoms,
to educate peoples innate capacity to sense and co-create their future,
to address the accelerating climate change
Nature is our teacher-it demonstrates the need for interdependence, interconnectedness –the participation of all.
Our model has evolved over a period of time influenced by the Universe story.
Each jewel is the whole- the whole is in the jewel. Each person has the charism in its wholeness.
The clusters are geographical community working with the organic model.
The idea is that membership of the Hub changes as needed and everyone participates at this level and we are evaluating our Hubs at the moment.
Our core values are identified here
We are challenged by these Gospel values to live these with integrity and to call each other to account in relation to them.
Here we spell out the beliefs and behaviours we expect of ourselves in living out these values and which we continue to evaluate.
The work we have done on the Integrity of Creation has given us a new perspective, a new story.
Part of this story is recognising our rightful place within the universe – participants in an ever evolving, unfolding Universe. We are part of the community of life not the community of life. We take to heart the three fundamental principles of the universe, Interiority (that all life is sacred, every being has its own inner life, its self, its mystery. To deprive any being of this sacred quality is to disrupt the total order of things.), Communion – the Inter communion of the universe within itself and of each part with the whole. each being is subject not object and all subjects are in communion. Differentiation , the earth process is to produce variety in all things from the atomic structures of the living world of plant and animal forms to the appearance of individuals,
‘God created the great diversity of things so that what was lacking in one would be supplied by the others and the whole universe together would participate in and manifest the divine more than any single being.’
Thomas Aquinas
