 The conversation is happening even if
  you are not participating
 Your official voice is not there to give
  context
 One click is not just one click
 We should/must be where people are.
 Founded in February 2004, Facebook is a social utility that helps
people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family
and coworkers. The company develops technologies that facilitate
the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital
mapping of people's real-world social connections. Anyone can
sign up for Facebook and interact with the people they know in a
  trusted environment.
 Facebook, the product, is made up of core site functions and
applications. Fundamental features to the experience on Facebook
are a person’s Home page and Profile. The Home page includes
News Feed, a personalized feed of his or her friends updates. The
Profile displays information about the individual he or she has
chosen to share, including interests, education and work
background and contact information. Facebook also includes core
applications – Photos, Events, Videos, Groups, and Pages – that let
people connect and share in rich and engaging ways.
Additionally, people can communicate with one another through
Chat, personal messages, Wall posts, Pokes, or Status Updates.
 Profile v. Pages
    › Similar looking
    › Profiles for Individuals
    › Pages for Organizations
 communicating on a mass scale
    › Different optimized features
 Pages v. Groups
    › Look similar
› Groups are for users to organize

    › Can’t control it
Page
 You do not ―login‖ to a page, you login
to your account which controls a page.
 All pages require an admin.
 Best practice is for all pages to have
  multiple administrators.
 You can invite admins who are already
  on Facebook or via e-mail.
 Admins are not public.
 Content!
    › Official v. interactive
 Keep it interesting & Fresh
› Photos, Blog feeds (RSS), Video, New News.
 Post every day!
› But not all at once.
 Develop a posting plan
    › Weekly themes
› Should meet one of your goals
 Founded in February 2005, YouTube
    allows billions of people to
    discover, watch and share originally-
    created videos. YouTube provides a
forum for people to connect, inform, and
inspire others across the globe and acts
as a distribution platform for original
    content creators and advertisers large
    and small.
 Twitter is a nice quiet place to be alone
    with other people's thoughts.
                                 › @funnyordie
Twitter is a real-time information network that connects
you to the latest information about what you find
interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most
   compelling and follow the conversations.

At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information
called Tweets. Tweets are140 characters in length, but
don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot
with a little space. Connected to each Tweet is a rich
   details pane that provides additional
information, deeper context and embedded media.
You can tell your story within your Tweet, or you can
think of a Tweet as the headline, and use the details
pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other
media content. See it in action
 Categorize your friends into circles

 The rest is pretty much the same
 when you hit send… it is no longer
  private information
 What happens in Vegas…
 Personal Info
Don't respond to requests for personal
    information from unknown sources. Providing
information such as your social security number
or financial details may expose you to identity
theft or other types of crime.
 Troll: someone who posts
inflammatory, or off topic messages with
the primary intent of provoking readers
    into an emotional response.
Have a good
Comments Policy
 Can I just turn off comments?
 What if someone says something
  negative?
 Add a Comments policy
 Can we have a work profile, an
organization profile, and my own profile?
 Archiving questions
 We have a website, why Facebook?
 Facebook
› Photos, Events, Videos, Links, Articles, Quotes,
      Thoughts, current happenings, Updates
 Twitter
    › Short thoughts, updates, Links
 Websites
    › Long term information
    › Archives
 Setup a Facebook Page, Add Content to
the Page, & Publish the Page
 Establish a system for regularly updating a
  Page
 Brief your boss/management on Facebook
  and ask them to contribute
 Promote the Page
› Add your Facebook URL to everything
› Put a Fanbox on your Website
    › Buy Ads
 Add a username to the Page
  (shortened URL)
 Post Content via Mobile (events or out
  in the field)
 Make a video thanking your fans
 Share comments from the page
  internally
 Social Networking. Interact by adding
friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups and
    having discussions.
    › Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM
 Social Bookmarking. Interact by tagging websites
and searching through websites bookmarked by
    other people.
    › Del.icio.us, Blinklist, Simpy, Stumbleupon
 Social News. Interact by voting for articles and
    commenting on them.
    › Digg, Propeller, Reddit
 Social Photo and Video Sharing. Interact by sharing
photos or videos and commenting on user
    submissions.

 Wikis. Interact by adding articles and editing
    existing articles.
