The State of Architectural Design
Architecture firms employ approximately 158,000 people in the United States
(Bureau of Labor Statistics).
The employees at architecture firms break down according to these percentages:
• 36% of employees are licensed architects
(includes principals/partners)
• 16% of employees are intern architects
(on licensure path) or students
• 13% of employees are nonlicensed graduates
(graduates of accredited architecture programs not currently on licensure path)
• 22% of employees are other design and nondesign professionals
(engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, planners)
• 13% of employees are technical and nontechnical staff
(includes nonbillable technical and administrative staff)

Yes – there is a big demand in the design
community for modelers as you describe.
If you go to the Arch/Engineering section of the
Craigslist ‘jobs’ section and type ‘Revit’ in the
search, you will see how big the demand is in
the Denver market.
In general, we have a hard time finding good
modelers who also understand how a building
is put together. We look forward to potentially
hiring your graduates.
