This document provides a list of 20 favorite Christmas albums, with 1-3 sentences describing each one. Some of the albums highlighted include classic artists like Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, and Bing Crosby. Modern artists like Mariah Carey, Josh Groban, and Mannheim Steamroller are also mentioned. The list covers a variety of genres from big band and jazz to pop and contemporary Christian music.
2. TIM RUSHLOW CLASSIC CHRISTMAS
Wow. What a fabulous big band sound from a
singer known for his country albums. Don’t
miss “A Soldiers Song.” An immediate classic!
3. NAT KING COLE THE CHRISTMAS SONG
Has there ever been a better “crooner”? What a
voice! When he sings, “chestnuts roasting on
an open fire,” you can smell them!
4. ELVIS PRESLEY CLASSIC CHRISTMAS
It would truly be a blue blue Christmas without
Elvis singing in the background. You believe
him when he says, “I’ll be home for Christmas.”
5. AMY GRANT HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
When Amy sings it just feels like Christmas!
There’s a warmth in her words and
arrangements. “Grown Up Christmas List” is a
favorite.
6. HANDEL’S MESSIAH
I love hearing The Messiah live at a school or
church concert – but the London
Philharmonic’s performance is breathtaking.
7. MARIAH CAREY MERRY CHRISTMAS
Great voice. Great songs. And of course there’s
her classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
8. BING CROSBY WHITE CHRISTMAS
The movie … the song … both take us back to a
kinder and gentler era. Bing warms the heart.
9. PERCY FAITH MUSIC OF CHRISTMAS
There’s just something about all those strings
in the background. Percy takes you back to
Saturday nights with Lawrence Welk – a
nostaligic treat.
10. JOSH GROBAN NOEL
Is he a baritone or a tenor? Doesn’t matter. He
sings good! His take on “Ave Maria” will send
shivers up and down your spine – inspiring.
11. JIM BRICKMAN PEACE
Cool contemporary jazz that stands out from the
pack. An unforgettable vocal collaboration on
“Let It Snow!” with the Blind Boys from Alabama.
12. MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER CHRISTMAS
Chip Davis delivers high voltage energy with his
albums and performances. A strange, wonderful
fusion of classic instruments and electronic
wizardry.
13. KENNY G FAITH
This is the album to listen to when it’s time to slow
down and reflect on and savor the season. His rendition
of “Auld Lang Syne” with historical newscasts is
powerful.
14. TRAVIS COTTRELL RING THE BELLS
Cottrell is known more as a worship leader than
performer – his duet with Natalie Grant on the title song
is just fabulous – it will make your spirit soar.
15. MITCH MILLER HOLIDAY SING ALONG
If you have young children, this is a must have album. If
my grown up kids hear “It Must Be Santa” – they still
sing – LOUD – and whether I want to or not – so do I!
16. LEON REDBONE CHRISTMAS ISLAND
Hey – I’m giving you more than 10 albums and this is
my list! There’s nothing wrong with enjoying and
smiling at the unique and quirky Redbone vocals.
17. MICHAEL BOLTON THIS IS THE TIME
I may be out on a limb on this one. What’s next? Hughie
Lewis? But Michael Bolton’s gravelly bluesy vocals are
a guilty pleasure during the Christmas season.
