development this year?” Most will say yes
or that they are not sure. If it’s a flat No,
you can move on or try to get more from
them. For example, you might say, “Oh, so
you have all the hours you need then?”

3. For those who say Yes, which will be most, continue
this way: “The Paperless Classroom online courses
are created by Mark Barnes, a former teacher and
renowned author and international presenter. Mark’s
courses help educators learn how to use classroom
websites, mobile devices, social media and web tools
for any grade or subject. We even offer a 3-semester
hour course on using Twitter both in and out of the
classroom. Mark’s courses are really popular and,
best of all, they are self-pacing and taught with easy
to use how-to video and online communication.”

4. Be sure you provide the website (use a business card with
only the address, www.thepaperlessclassroom, and
something like “online courses for educators”). If there is a
computer handy, or you have your own Internet-ready
device, pull up the site to show teachers. Next say:
“Unless you have questions, I don’t want to take too much
of your time. But, hey, why don’t you give me your name
and check out our website, thepaperlessclassroom.com, to
learn more about all of our powerful 3-semester hour
courses. I’ll add you to our list of possible enrollees, and
we’ll be on the lookout for your registration. Don’t worry, I
don’t need your email or phone number; we don’t contact
people, unless they register. We just like to have names of
interested people, so we can watch for them, when the
college sends us new registrations.

You can register online in about 5 minutes or you can
call to register. Be sure to ask for one of Mark
Barnes’ courses; in fact, the course titles and ID
numbers are on the registration page, so it’s really
simple. Remember, courses are 9 weeks, but you’ll
probably finish in 2-3, so you can register today and
start anytime before the course ends. Don’t wait too
long though.”

--Transcripts or accreditation questions: Course hours are provided through Lake
Erie College, which is accredited in all 50 states. Transcripts are sent a few weeks
after you complete the course.

--What if I teach elementary? Many kindergarten and Pre-K teachers have taken
our courses. They fit all ages and subject areas.
