 that is morally just
or legally granted as
allowable or due to a
         person
What is a
    Convention?
     A convention is an
    agreement between
countries to obey the same
law. When the government
  of a country ratifies a
 convention, that means it
  agrees to obey the law
Why do children
  need a special
   convention?
 Because people under the
age of 18 need special care
and protection that adults
  don’t necessarily need
What are the
key principles
and provisions
    of the
 Convention?
Non-discrimination
  Children should neither
 benefit or suffer because
    of their race, color,
gender, language, religion,
 national, social or ethnic
 origin, or because of any
political or other opinion;
The Best Interests of
      the Child
  Laws and actions
 affecting children
should put their best
 interests first and
 benefit them in the
 best possible way.
Survival, Development
     and Protection
The authorities in each
 country must protect
   children and help
   ensure their full
    development —
physically, spiritually,

Children have a right
 to have their say in
decisions that affect
  them and to have
their opinions taken
    into account.

  • 5. Why do children need a special convention? Because people under the age of 18 need special care and protection that adults don’t necessarily need

  • 8. Non-discrimination Children should neither benefit or suffer because of their race, color, gender, language, religion, national, social or ethnic origin, or because of any political or other opinion;
