1. Piriz Mariana’s essay
Among the last years, the implementation of technology in different fields such as
politics, science and education has provoked a shift in our society and culture. But
without doubt technology has provoked the greatest twist in education, aiding teachers
to catch their students’ attention and to enrich the learning-teaching process through
the usage of ICTs in the educational field. However, the usage of ICTs in educational
institutions is far from being fully implemented due to the great amount of money that
governments have to invest in order to introduce technology at school.
With the aim of promoting the usage of ICTs at school, the governments of different
American countries carried out an array of projects that fostered the ‘One laptop per
child scheme’. This project was created by Nicholas Negroponte, and it consisted in
distributing netbooks to every student so that they could have access to explore and
express their ideas. In Argentina a similar plan was carried out with the name of
‘Conectar igualdad’ in order to foster cooperative learning and the interaction of
learners within the classroom.
By providing each learner and teacher with a netbook, a new model named ‘Modelo
1.1’ is trying to be implemented in Argentina since 2010. According to this model,
students and teachers can use computers not only at school but also at home in order
to enhance the teaching-learning process. Having netbooks in the classroom is
paramount in this digitalized era, since it gives students the possibility of watching
videos, using power point presentations, using blogs, hotmail, moviemaker and many
others software to learn.
All in all, I consider that the implementation of technological tools at school is very
useful since they are meant to facilitate the teacher’s labor and enhance students’
motivation and creativity. Yet, it is also true that in order to continue improving;
teachers should become acquainted with all the software and technological devices
that students can use, so that they can guide students to use technology properly.
