6 Republicans Who Favor Same-Sex Marriage - Including Kenneth Mehlman & Clint Eastwood: With more and more republicans coming out in favor of same-sex marriage, I thought I would create a preview of some who have so far.
2. Jon Huntsman, Jr.
The former governor of Utah and 2012 Republican presidential candidate at first only favored
civil unions and not same sex marriage. In a piece for the American Conservative, Huntsman
said, “While serving as governor of Utah, I pushed for civil unions and expanded reciprocal
benefits for gay citizens. That was four years ago. Today we have an opportunity to do more.”
3. B.J. Nikkel
Nikkel was the only Republican on the Colorado House Judiciary Committee to vote in
favor of same-sex civil unions.
4. Kenneth Mehlman
Kenneth Mehlman not only has spoken out in states like Iowa and Illinois in favor of same-
sex marriage, but he also started an organization called Project Right Side. This helps to
get more conservative support for marriage equality.
5. Alex Castellanos
Castellanos was once ranked as GQ magazines 50 most powerful people in Washington.
He has been a media consultant to every Republican presidential candidate in the last
twenty years, including Bush, McCain and Romney.
6. Deborah Pryce
Deborah Pryce is a retired congresswoman from Ohio. She has said that, “Like a lot of the
country, my views have evolved on this from the first day I set foot in Congress. I think it’s
just the right thing, and I think it’s on solid legal footing, too.”
7. Clint Eastwood
While Clint Eastwood is an actor and not a politician, he recently came out as a supporter
of same-sex marriage.
