• A Bar code scanner is a electronic reader that is used to
read printed bar code.
• It consists of a light source, a lens and a light sensor that
translate the optical impulses into electrical impulses.
3. How it works?
The scanning process begins by illuminating the code with
red light.
Light reflected from the illumination will then be detected by
the sensor of the bar code scanner.
Analogue signal will then be converted into digital signal
which will then be decoded by the decoder.
4. How is it used?
• Retail store often use bar code as a product identifier.
• After the product is detected, computer program can use
the product id to get information of the product from the
online database.
