• DEFINITIONS:
          ‫الحج لغة: قصد الشيء المعظم وإتيانه‬
   – Literally: "Hajj" means heading for an honorable
     person or place.
   – ،‫وشرعا: قصد البيت الحرام والمشاعر العظام وإتيانها، في وقت مخصوص‬
              ‫على وجه مخصوص، وهوالصفة المعلومة في الشرع‬
   – Legally: Hajj means worshipping Allah by performing
     the Hajj rituals, which are defined as specific acts
     performed at a specific time and place in a specific
     way.
Benefits of Hajj
•   Completing Islam (the fifth pillar of Islam)
•   Leaving wealth and family for the pleasure of Allah
•   Patience, under all circumstances
•   Spending wealth earned from Halal means
•   Praising Allah a lot
•   It is a show of submission and servitude
•   Cooperation for goodness against evil
•   Knowing other Muslims from all over the world
•   Sharing with others (resources, knowledge, etc)
•   Total forgiveness for past sins

    ‫الناس حج البيت من استطاع إليه سبيل ومن كفر فإن الِل‬
                                           َ ِ‫َ نيِ  ٌّ َ نيِ َعْ َ َ ني‬
                                           ‫غني عن العالمين‬
• The first House (of worship) laid down for people is
  that at Bakka/Makkah: Full of blessing and of
  guidance for all worlds. In it are Manifest Signs; the
  Stand of Abraham; and he who enters it, he is
  secure. To Allah is a duty people owe; Pilgrimage to
  the House, on those who can afford the journey; but
  if any denies faith, Allah has no need from any of His
  creatures (3 / 96-97).

     ِ‫ََ نيِ  ُّ َعْ َ ةَّ َ َعْ ًدُ َعْ َ َ ني‬
     ‫وأتموا الحج والعمرة لِل‬
And complete the Hajj and
 ‘Umra to (please) Allah.

Hajj is (to be performed) during specific months.
He who obliges to do the Hajj therein, Let there
be no sexual (activity), nor disobedience, nor
argumentation during the Hajj. And whatever
good you do, Allah knows it. And take (your)
provision for the journey, indeed, the best of
provisions is piety. So fear Me, O’ you who have
wise hearts (2:197)
“That, and he who glorifies
Allah’s rituals, it is (a sign/part
     of) piety of the heart.”
                 Surat Al Hajj22:32
Requirements for Hajj
             Obligation
•   Islam
•   Maturation (age of puberty)
•   Reasoning and sanity
•   Freedom
•   Ability:
    – Financially
    – Physically
Attitude during Hajj
• Halal and appropriate everything
• Staying away from any sexual activity, any
  disobedience, argumentation, and all useless
  talk, let alone haram talk.
• Humbleness and avoiding excessive ornaments
• Volunteer additional ibadah and sacrifice as
  needed
• To be pleased with difficulty, spending and
  sacrificing
•   Things to take with you:
    _ Ihram, slippers, Waist Pouch (Fanny Pouch) and belt.
    – personal clothes, personal hygiene, sunglasses, umbrella, etc.
    – Documents (originals and photocopies) of passports, medical
      records and vaccination record.
    – Money.
    – Consult your physician for:
         • Medications for respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, common
           colds, pain relief, antibiotics, skin treatments, etc. (consult your
           doctor). Over counter drugs such as the following would be helpful:
         • ASPIRIN, TYLENOL, ADVIL or ALEVE (for pain)
         • TYLENOL PM (as a sleep-aid)
         • BENGAY, ASPERCREME (for muscular pain)
         • PEPTOBISMOL, IMMODIUM (for diarrhea)
         • EMETROL (for nausea)
         • COUGH DROPS, MULTI-VITAMINS, BAND-AIDS, ANTI-BACTERIAL
           CREAM
‫سبحان الذ ي سخر لنا هذا وما كنا له مقرنين وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون‬
 Subhaan allathee sakhkhara lana haathaa wa
 maa kunnaa lahoo muqrineen wa inna ila
 rabbina lamunqaliboon.

 Praised is the One who subjected this
 (vehicle) for us, for we couldn’t subject it (on
 our own). And verily, we will return to our
 Lord. (43:13-14)
‫اللهم إني أسألك في سفر ي هذا البر والتقو ى ومن‬
               ‫العمل ما ترضى‬
  Allahumma inni as'aluka fee safari haathaa al-birra wat-taq-wa
                   wa minal-'amali ma tarda.

O Allah! Indeed, I ask of You in this journey of mine righteousness
  and piety, and the type of conduct which will pleases you.

          ‫اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطو عنا بعده‬
Allahumma hawwin alaynaa safaranaa haathaa watwi 'anna bu'dah

   Oh Allah! Make this journey of ours easy for us and make its
                         distance short.
       ‫اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الهل‬
    Allahumma antas-Saahibu fis-safar wal-khaleefatu fil-ahl

    O Allah! You are the most important travel companion and
                representative for the household.
‫اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر وكآبة المنظر وسوء المنقلب في‬
                        ‫المال والهل‬

  Allahumma innee a'oodhu bika min wa'thaa as-safar wa ka'aabatil-
          mandhar wa sooil-munqalab fil-maali wal-ahl.


  Oh Allah! Verily, I seek refuge in you from the accidents of travel and
       depressing sights and bad fate in my wealth and family.
• IFRAD: ONLY HAJJ WITHOUT UMRA
  – Only for those who made Umrah before and don’t
    have time or ability to do it again.
  – No sacrifice is needed.
• Qiran: Combining Umrah  Hajj in one Ihram
  – Mandatory for those who bring their sacrifice with them.
• Tamattu’: Make Umrah followed by Hajj in 2
  separate Ihrams.
  – for all others.
  – Sacrifice becomes a must.

    –   Located 253 miles to the North of Makkah.
    –   It is the place for the people of Madinah (a village six or seven miles away)
    –   AKA Abiar A’li.
    –   It is also called ((waadi ul `Aqeeq)).
•   2-AL-JUHFAH:
    – Located 127.5 miles to the N.W. of Makkah.
    – AKA Rabigh.
    – Is the Meeqat for the people coming from the direction of Egypt and Syria.
•   3-Qarn UL MANAAZIL:
    –  Located 59.3 to the East of Makkah.
    – It is the Meeqat for the people coming from the direction of Al-Ta'if.
• 4-YALAMLAM:
    – Located 28 miles South of Makkah.
    – Is the Meeqat for people coming from the direction of Yemen.
• 5-DHAATU IRQ:
    – Located 59 miles N.E. from Makkah.
    – Is the Meeqaat for the people coming from the direction of Iraq.
It is a state of Ibadah with certain restrictions.
Prohibitions during Ihram state:
•   Haircut or shaving.
•   Clipping of nails.
•   Wearing perfumes or colognes.
•   Killing or hunting animals or harmless insects.
•   Sexual intercourse or acts leading to it.
•   Marriage proposals or marriage contracts.
•   Covering head or wearing clothes or shoes for men.
•   Wearing gloves and niqabs, burdas or specially
    tailored face covering.

           you have caused me to end.
Labbayk, Allahumma Labbayk. Labbayk La shareeka laka Labbayk.
lnnal-hamda wan-n'imata laka wal-mulk. La shareeka lak.

 Here I am, O Allah, at Your Command, Here I am! You
                 are without associates,
 Yours are the Praise and Grace and Dominion, You are
             without associates, Here I am
‫أعوذ بالِل العظيم و بوجهه الكريم و سلطانه القديم من‬
                    ‫الشيطان الرجيم‬
I seek refuge in Allah, The Supreme and
     in His Noble face and His eternal
     authority from the accursed devil
    ‫اللهم صل على محمد اللهم افتح لى أبواب رحمتك‬
  O’ Allah bless Prophet Muhammad, O
    Allah, open to me the doors of Your
                      mercy
•      Make wudu or Ghusl.
•      Start from the Black Stone or parallel to
       it.
•      Kiss it, touch it with hand or stick, if
       possible without hurting self or others,
       or else point to it from your place.
•      Make takbeer at the Black Stone.
•      Between Yemani Corner and the Black
       Stone, recite the following dua’a:
    ً‫َ ةَّ َ نيِ َ نيِ  ُّ َعْ َ َ َ َ  ىً َ نيِ َعْ نيِ َ نيِ َ َ َ  ى‬
    ‫ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الخرة حسنة‬
                                ِ‫َ نيِ َ َ َ َ ةَّ ني‬
                                ‫وقنا عذاب النار‬
       Our Lord! Give us good in this world
       and good in the Hereafter, and save us
       from the torment of the Fire.

or Bilal Gates are best
access to start Tawaf
•Tawaf is available in
2nd and 3rd floors
•Wheelchairs are
offered for rent in 2nd
floor
•Tawaf’ul Ifadah is very
difficult on 1st day of
Eid. You may make it

• Recite Surat Al Kafirun in
  the 1st rak’ah and Ikhlas in
  the 2nd after Fatihah.
• Drink from Zamazam
• Zamzam is available in
  coolers around the
  Mosue
•   Starts with Safa and ends with
    Marwah.
•   Seven times only where from
    Safa to Marwah counts as one
    round and vise versa.
•   Recite verse #2 / 158
•   Make takbeer at Safa and                Marwa
    Supplications.
•   Walk between Safa and
    Marwah in normal speed.
•   Speed up but do not run (men
    only) between the two green
    marks.

Spiritual Aspects of Hajj
Internalization of Hajj Acts
• Understanding of the essence of Ibadah:
  Khulus (sincerity, submission and
  devotion).
• Longing for being in worship and in the
  presence of Allah
• Determination to change your life style
• Severing forbidden relations, associations
  and affiliations
• Ending forbidden practices and traditions
The Hereafter
• When purchasing Iharam, remember the
  shrouds
• When leaving, remember departing this
  world
• When at Arafah, remember the land and
  time of resurrection
• When leaving Arafah, remember the al
  Hashr (people driven to their reckoning)
Things to remember
•   When entering the Miqat
•   When starting Ihram and talbiyah
•   When entering Makkah
•   When seeing the haram and the Ka’abah
•   When making Tawaf
•   When making sa’y
•   When at A’rafah
•   When stoning jamarat
•   When making the sacrifice
•   When visiting the Prophet’s Mosque and Madinah
• Visiting the Masjid
  of the Prophet is not
  required for the
  completion of Hajj
  but is highly
  recommended.
•   Lower your voice.
•   Say “assalamu alaika ya
    Rasoula Allah”
•   Acknowledge his service to his
    Ummah and his
    trustworthiness in conveying
    the message.
•   Pray to Allah to reward him
    highly for his dedication.
•   Move to the right, say salam to
    Abi Bakr, acknowledge his role
    in support of Islam and of the
    Prophet and make Dua’ for
    him.
•   Move to the right and say the
    same for Umar.
• It is sunnah to visit
  the Masjid of Quba’
  and pray there.
• It is recommended to
  visit Al-Baqe’e and
  the Uhud Martyers,
  greeting them and
  praying for them.
‫السلم عليكم أهل الديار من المؤمنين والمسلمين‬
 ‫وإنا إن شاء الِل بكم لحقون نسأل الِل لنا ولكم العافية‬

Peace be upon you O’ inhabitants of
these homes of the believers and the
Muslims;
And,
We shall join you, in shaa’ Allah
We ask Allah the pardon and security for
us and for you
‫السلم عليكم أهل الديار من المؤمنين والمسلمين‬
       ‫وإنا إن شاء الِل بكم لحقون نسأل الِل لنا ولكم العافية‬
• Assalamu 'alaikum, ahlal-diyar minal-mu'mineen
• wal-muslimeen. wa inna insha-Allah bikum lahi-
  qoon.
• Nasalal-laha lana wa lakumul- 'afiyah.
Which means:
• Peace be upon you, O dwellers of these sites from
• amongthe Believers and the Muslims, and we will
• insha-'Allah join you. We ask Allah for pardon for
• ourselves and for you.)

  • 1. • DEFINITIONS: ‫الحج لغة: قصد الشيء المعظم وإتيانه‬ – Literally: "Hajj" means heading for an honorable person or place. – ،‫وشرعا: قصد البيت الحرام والمشاعر العظام وإتيانها، في وقت مخصوص‬ ‫على وجه مخصوص، وهوالصفة المعلومة في الشرع‬ – Legally: Hajj means worshipping Allah by performing the Hajj rituals, which are defined as specific acts performed at a specific time and place in a specific way.

Benefits of Hajj • Completing Islam (the fifth pillar of Islam) • Leaving wealth and family for the pleasure of Allah • Patience, under all circumstances • Spending wealth earned from Halal means • Praising Allah a lot • It is a show of submission and servitude • Cooperation for goodness against evil • Knowing other Muslims from all over the world • Sharing with others (resources, knowledge, etc) • Total forgiveness for past sins
  • 3. َ ِ‫نيِ ةَّ َ ةَّ َ َ َعْ و ٍ ًدُض َ نيِ ةَّ نيِ َةَّ نيِ نيِ َ ةَّ َ ًدُ َ ر ىً َ ًدُ ىً نيِ َعْ َ َ ني‬ ‫إن أول بيت و نيِع للناس للذ ي ببكة مبا َكا وهد ى للعالمين‬ ‫فيه آيات بينات مقام إبراهيم ومن دخله كان آمنا ولِل على‬ َ َ َّ‫نيِ نيِ َ ٌ َ نِّ َ ٌ َ َ ًدُ نيِ َعْ َ نيِ َ َ َ َعْ َ َ َ ًدُ َ َ نيِ ىً َ ة‬ ِ‫ني‬ َ َّ‫ةَّ نيِ نيِ ُّ َعْ َ َعْ نيِ َ نيِ َعْ َ َ َ نيِ َ َعْ نيِ َ نيِ ىً َ َ َعْ َ َ َ َنيِ ةَّ ة‬ ‫الناس حج البيت من استطاع إليه سبيل ومن كفر فإن الِل‬ َ ِ‫َ نيِ ٌّ َ نيِ َعْ َ َ ني‬ ‫غني عن العالمين‬ • The first House (of worship) laid down for people is that at Bakka/Makkah: Full of blessing and of guidance for all worlds. In it are Manifest Signs; the Stand of Abraham; and he who enters it, he is secure. To Allah is a duty people owe; Pilgrimage to the House, on those who can afford the journey; but if any denies faith, Allah has no need from any of His creatures (3 / 96-97).
  • 4. ِ‫ني‬ َّ‫ة‬ ِ‫ََ نيِ ُّ َعْ َ ةَّ َ َعْ ًدُ َعْ َ َ ني‬ ‫وأتموا الحج والعمرة لِل‬ And complete the Hajj and ‘Umra to (please) Allah. (2/ 196)
  • 5. Hajj is (to be performed) during specific months. He who obliges to do the Hajj therein, Let there be no sexual (activity), nor disobedience, nor argumentation during the Hajj. And whatever good you do, Allah knows it. And take (your) provision for the journey, indeed, the best of provisions is piety. So fear Me, O’ you who have wise hearts (2:197)
  • 6. “That, and he who glorifies Allah’s rituals, it is (a sign/part of) piety of the heart.” Surat Al Hajj22:32
  • 7. Requirements for Hajj Obligation • Islam • Maturation (age of puberty) • Reasoning and sanity • Freedom • Ability: – Financially – Physically
  • 8. Attitude during Hajj • Halal and appropriate everything • Staying away from any sexual activity, any disobedience, argumentation, and all useless talk, let alone haram talk. • Humbleness and avoiding excessive ornaments • Volunteer additional ibadah and sacrifice as needed • To be pleased with difficulty, spending and sacrificing
  • 9. Things to take with you: _ Ihram, slippers, Waist Pouch (Fanny Pouch) and belt. – personal clothes, personal hygiene, sunglasses, umbrella, etc. – Documents (originals and photocopies) of passports, medical records and vaccination record. – Money. – Consult your physician for: • Medications for respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, common colds, pain relief, antibiotics, skin treatments, etc. (consult your doctor). Over counter drugs such as the following would be helpful: • ASPIRIN, TYLENOL, ADVIL or ALEVE (for pain) • TYLENOL PM (as a sleep-aid) • BENGAY, ASPERCREME (for muscular pain) • PEPTOBISMOL, IMMODIUM (for diarrhea) • EMETROL (for nausea) • COUGH DROPS, MULTI-VITAMINS, BAND-AIDS, ANTI-BACTERIAL CREAM
  • 10. ‫سبحان الذ ي سخر لنا هذا وما كنا له مقرنين وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون‬ Subhaan allathee sakhkhara lana haathaa wa maa kunnaa lahoo muqrineen wa inna ila rabbina lamunqaliboon. Praised is the One who subjected this (vehicle) for us, for we couldn’t subject it (on our own). And verily, we will return to our Lord. (43:13-14)
  • 11. ‫اللهم إني أسألك في سفر ي هذا البر والتقو ى ومن‬ ‫العمل ما ترضى‬ Allahumma inni as'aluka fee safari haathaa al-birra wat-taq-wa wa minal-'amali ma tarda. O Allah! Indeed, I ask of You in this journey of mine righteousness and piety, and the type of conduct which will pleases you. ‫اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطو عنا بعده‬ Allahumma hawwin alaynaa safaranaa haathaa watwi 'anna bu'dah Oh Allah! Make this journey of ours easy for us and make its distance short. ‫اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الهل‬ Allahumma antas-Saahibu fis-safar wal-khaleefatu fil-ahl O Allah! You are the most important travel companion and representative for the household.
  • 12. ‫اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر وكآبة المنظر وسوء المنقلب في‬ ‫المال والهل‬ Allahumma innee a'oodhu bika min wa'thaa as-safar wa ka'aabatil- mandhar wa sooil-munqalab fil-maali wal-ahl. Oh Allah! Verily, I seek refuge in you from the accidents of travel and depressing sights and bad fate in my wealth and family.
  • 13. • IFRAD: ONLY HAJJ WITHOUT UMRA – Only for those who made Umrah before and don’t have time or ability to do it again. – No sacrifice is needed. • Qiran: Combining Umrah Hajj in one Ihram – Mandatory for those who bring their sacrifice with them. • Tamattu’: Make Umrah followed by Hajj in 2 separate Ihrams. – for all others. – Sacrifice becomes a must.

  • 18. • Fixed locations (five) around Makkah. • Must not be crossed without putting Ihram on and reciting the intention. • If the person crosses them unintentionally, he/she can go back to start over or offer a sacrifice for this violation. • People who live in these places or between them and Makkah can start Ihram from their locations.

  • 20. 1-DHUL HULAIFAH: – Located 253 miles to the North of Makkah. – It is the place for the people of Madinah (a village six or seven miles away) – AKA Abiar A’li. – It is also called ((waadi ul `Aqeeq)). • 2-AL-JUHFAH: – Located 127.5 miles to the N.W. of Makkah. – AKA Rabigh. – Is the Meeqat for the people coming from the direction of Egypt and Syria. • 3-Qarn UL MANAAZIL: – Located 59.3 to the East of Makkah. – It is the Meeqat for the people coming from the direction of Al-Ta'if. • 4-YALAMLAM: – Located 28 miles South of Makkah. – Is the Meeqat for people coming from the direction of Yemen. • 5-DHAATU IRQ: – Located 59 miles N.E. from Makkah. – Is the Meeqaat for the people coming from the direction of Iraq.
  • 21. It is a state of Ibadah with certain restrictions. Prohibitions during Ihram state: • Haircut or shaving. • Clipping of nails. • Wearing perfumes or colognes. • Killing or hunting animals or harmless insects. • Sexual intercourse or acts leading to it. • Marriage proposals or marriage contracts. • Covering head or wearing clothes or shoes for men. • Wearing gloves and niqabs, burdas or specially tailored face covering.

  • 24. ‫اللهم محلي حيث حبستني‬ Allahumma in habasani Habisun, Famahilli Haithu Habastani O’ Allah, If I am prevented (by any unforeseen element), my end (of rituals) will be where you have caused me to end.
  • 25. Labbayk, Allahumma Labbayk. Labbayk La shareeka laka Labbayk. lnnal-hamda wan-n'imata laka wal-mulk. La shareeka lak. Here I am, O Allah, at Your Command, Here I am! You are without associates, Yours are the Praise and Grace and Dominion, You are without associates, Here I am
  • 26. ‫أعوذ بالِل العظيم و بوجهه الكريم و سلطانه القديم من‬ ‫الشيطان الرجيم‬ I seek refuge in Allah, The Supreme and in His Noble face and His eternal authority from the accursed devil ‫اللهم صل على محمد اللهم افتح لى أبواب رحمتك‬ O’ Allah bless Prophet Muhammad, O Allah, open to me the doors of Your mercy

Make wudu or Ghusl. • Start from the Black Stone or parallel to it. • Kiss it, touch it with hand or stick, if possible without hurting self or others, or else point to it from your place. • Make takbeer at the Black Stone. • Between Yemani Corner and the Black Stone, recite the following dua’a: ً‫َ ةَّ َ نيِ َ نيِ ُّ َعْ َ َ َ َ ىً َ نيِ َعْ نيِ َ نيِ َ َ َ ى‬ ‫ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الخرة حسنة‬ ِ‫َ نيِ َ َ َ َ ةَّ ني‬ ‫وقنا عذاب النار‬ Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the torment of the Fire.
  • 28. •King Abdulaziz, Ajyad or Bilal Gates are best access to start Tawaf •Tawaf is available in 2nd and 3rd floors •Wheelchairs are offered for rent in 2nd floor •Tawaf’ul Ifadah is very difficult on 1st day of Eid. You may make it during other Eid days •Don’t make group Tawaf unless you have women or elderly to protect. Upper floors are better in these cases

  • 30. Pillar Mandatory Sunnah Upon entering Haram Umrah If obligatory Tawaf or Qudum (arrival) is not required Qudum for Hajj if not for Umrah Upon arrival At any time Ifaadah Or Wada’ (Farewell) Ziyarah ِ
  • 31. • Acts recommended as Sunnah during Tawaf of Qudum (Arrival): – Idhtiba’a (Uncovering right shoulders) for men. – Raml (Haste walking) for men. Important: These two acts are neither required nor recommended during other Tawafs
  • 32. • Make Dua’ • Pray two Raka’ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim (or anywhere else in the Masjid). Always face the Ka’abah!! • Recite Surat Al Kafirun in the 1st rak’ah and Ikhlas in the 2nd after Fatihah. • Drink from Zamazam • Zamzam is available in coolers around the Mosue
  • 33. Starts with Safa and ends with Marwah. • Seven times only where from Safa to Marwah counts as one round and vise versa. • Recite verse #2 / 158 • Make takbeer at Safa and Marwa Supplications. • Walk between Safa and Marwah in normal speed. • Speed up but do not run (men only) between the two green marks. Lower your voice. • Say “assalamu alaika ya Rasoula Allah” • Acknowledge his service to his Ummah and his trustworthiness in conveying the message. • Pray to Allah to reward him highly for his dedication. • Move to the right, say salam to Abi Bakr, acknowledge his role in support of Islam and of the Prophet and make Dua’ for him. • Move to the right and say the same for Umar.
