2. 2. The Problem

My library is part of the court IT system

Library has no Internet page, only intranet

Impossible to send unique URL’s to anyone outside of our network

I wanted to share legal research tutorials, but needed a way to save and attach a unique URL

 3. 3. The Solution

A giant brainstorm leads straight to Flickr…

Perfect solution because each photo, set and collection have their own URL

Easy to convert text or photos within a .ppt presentation into a .jpg file

Great way to store and share files

Accessible from anywhere for teaching

 4. 4. Creating Tutorials in Flickr

Convert PowerPoint slides to .jpg files

Upload slides individually in reverse order into Flickr

Enter metadata for each slide, or batch edit if possible

Save slides as labeled sets

Create a collection to house the sets

 5. 5. Viewing & Using Tutorials

My personal Flickr page:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/pandora12/

Tutorials are viewable as individual slides in my photostream

Tutorials are kept as labeled sets within a larger collection called “Legal Research Tutorials”

See the tutorial as a slideshow by clicking the icon

 6. 6. Flickr Strengths

Easy to sign up and use, from anywhere

Ability to add notes to your slides

The “share this” function allows you to send to a pre-set group or just grab the link

You can create groups to push out your tutorials to a wider audience – videos, too!

See a count of how many views your tutorial is getting

 7. 7. Flickr Weaknesses

Links are difficult to work with

Can’t access them in slideshow

Must use “notes” or description field to create hotlinks

The uploader tool may not work on your computer

Adding the metadata is cumbersome

The slideshow can look cluttered

For teaching purposes, this idea is static

Can’t tell exactly who is looking at your tutorials
