There are hundreds of robots avaliable on market. Yet,
they can be devided in three major groups.
• Robots by design
• Robots by usage
• Robots by interface
Every robot can be placed in one of these categories.
We are not talking about robot toys like transformers.
These groups refer to advanced robots and robot kits
3. Robots by design
This category refers to robot shapes and it can be devided to
many subcategories. Some of them are:
• Moovement
o Humanoid robots
o Hexapod robots
o Vehicle robots
By this main group has the most subgroups,
• Material
and these are just a few of them
– Metal
– Plastic

4. Robots by usage
By usage we mean what is the purpose of the robot.
Every bot has the purpose and it can be:
• Robots for Hobbies
• Industrial robots
• Household robots
• Science robots
Most of the commercial robot kits are hobby kits. Industrial and
science bots are mostly custom made and cannot be bought.
Most famous household robot is iRobot Roomba.
5. Robots by interface
Robot must perform some kind of movement. It must
be able to receive and calculate data. Then the bot has
to perform some action based on that data.
There are:
Programmable robots
Robots with ROM
Robots on the remote controller
First two groups must have sensors to collect information from
enviroment and third one gets info in real time from the person
controlling the bot.
6. Robots are everywhere!
Robotics can be a great hobby. It can be so much
fun. Some persons love to create robots from
scratch, some like to program them and some like
just to control them.
But robotics is more then a hobby. It is present in
our every day life. From driving a car, to opening the
door and vacuum cleaning. Some things would not
be possible if there arent robots!
