WHERE IS IT? WHAT IS IT?
Mount Teide is a stratovolcano (a conical volcano built up by many layers of
hardened lava, tephra, pumice and volcanic ash) located on Tenerife in the
Canary Islands, Spain. With a height of 3,718 metres it’s the highest point in Spain
and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic.

TEIDE NATIONAL PARK
The volcano and its surroundings comprise Teide National Park, which has an area of
18,900 hectares. Teide is the most visited natural wonder of Spain, the most visited
natural park in Spain and Europe and the eighth most visited in the world in 2015 with 3
million visitors yearly. In 2016, it was visited by more than 4 million visitors and tourists
reaching a historical record. In 1582, Sir Edmund Scory climbed Teide for the first time.
The last eruption of Teide was in 1909 from the El Chinyero vent, on the Santiago
Ridge..

More information about Teide
Teide is the main symbol of Tenerife and the most emblematic natural monument of
the Canary Islands. An image of Teide appears gushing flames at the centre of the
coat of arms of Tenerife. Above the volcano appears St. Michael, the patron of
Tenerife.
