9 Shot Analysis Adele
1. A close up of Adele’s face lets the audience know straight away that the focus is on
her, the pull focus also enhances this theory as the persons face in the background
is blurred out, yet hers is fully in focus.
2. The dull colours in this video inspired us to do the same, as we didn’t want black and
white as that would appear to harsh, yet we didn’t want the colours too vibrant as after
we analysed the lyrics we thought it would appear far to happy and excitable.
3. The contrast of the crashed car in the background and the romantic couple in the
foreground straight away attracted my attention as it amplifies the lyrics within the
song. “Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements” insinuating they refuse
to give in the to injuries from the car crash (perhaps a metaphor for an argument).
4. This shot shows the driver in the car for the first time, suggesting Adele and this man may
have been previously engaged in an argument and not talking, illustrating the lyrics as they
are based around a couple going through a hard time.
5. This birds eye view close up insinuates the couple are making up, it also gives a better
angle on the action. If you look closely you can also see that the shadow shows somewhat
of a love heart in between them.
6. This is a huge contrast from the previous clip where the couple are holding hands,
whereas this clip shows the reality of them unconscious after a car crash, showing
controversy within the video.
7. This mid shot shows Adele looking to the sky, perhaps symbolizing hope for the
injured couple. Her clothing also blends in with the background, making her appear
invisible to the people around her, which also links to the lyrics in the song.
8. This shows the couple dancing whilst on the floor, with everyone else dancing
around them, this may be Adele’s way of covering up the bad.
9. This shot shows the camera panning up towards the sky, again leaving the viewer
with hope, giving off a peaceful aura after a drastic event.
