LSC BASKETBALL
The Tarleton State men improved to 10-0 to remain the only unbeaten Lone Star Conference team and one of
eight undefeated in NCAA Division II menâs basketball.
The Angelo State men have only one loss at 11-1 with a six-game winning streak.
On the womenâs side, Midwestern State and West Texas A&M are both 9-1 with eight- and nine-game
winning streaks, respectively.
Teams now have Dec. 22-28 off for the NCAA Division II Winter Break before resuming play. The New Year
marks the start of LSC competition with MSU at Texas Womanâs on Jan. 1.
The LSC men have a 64-26 overall record so far this season including a 12-3 mark last week. In the NCAA
South Central Region, the menâs teams are currently 13-6 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and
8-6 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The LSC women are 46-38 overall with a 8-4 mark last week. The womenâs squads are currently 13-17
combined against the Heartland, and 6-3 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA
South Central Region.
The LSC champion will be the regular season winner determined by league games, while the postseason
tournament winner is designated as LSC Tournament Champion and earns the conferenceâs automatic
qualification. The top eight teams in the final conference standings qualify for the postseason tournament set
for March 4-7 in Allen, Texas.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MENâS OFFENSIVE
Marsell Holden, Angelo State University, SR, Guard, Farrell, Pa., Farrell HS
Holden put on a 3-point shooting exhibition last week by hitting 12 3-pointers and averaging 22 points in a pair
of wins over Arlington Baptist and Arkansas-Monticello for the Rams. The senior established a career-best by
draining seven 3-pointers and finishing with 23 points against UAM after hitting five 3-pointers and having 21
points against Arlington Baptist. On Saturday against the Weevils, Holden went 7 of 9 from beyond the arc after
going 5 of 9 against the Patriots. He shot 66.7 percent from the field over the two games, going 16 of 24. He
leads the Rams and the conference this season with 35 3-pointers and is averaging 14.1 points per game for the
Rams. From beyond the arc, Holden is 35 of 81 (43.2 percent).
MENâS DEFENSIVE
Davene Carter, Tarleton State University, SR, Forward, Duncanville, Texas, Duncanville HS
Carter put on a defensive showcase in Las Vegas as the senior from Duncanville lifted No. 5 Tarleton to a pair of
wins over Western Washington and No. 12 Drury at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic. In the tournament
opener against WWU, who entered the tournament having scored at least 100 points in three of their last four
games, Carter led the Texan defense that kept the Vikings in check with a season-low 72 total points. The senior
recorded his seventh career double-double against WWU with 16 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds to
go along with a career high five blocked shots. He followed up his performance against WWU by grabbing nine
rebounds â including seven on the defensive end â and blocking two shots against No. 12 Drury en route to
being named to the All-Tournament Team. In two games in Las Vegas, Carter led the team with 19 rebounds and
seven blocked shots to go along with 21 points. Carter and the Tarleton defense also held the potent offenses
of Western Washington and Drury to a combined shooting percentage of .426 and just 62.5 points per game.
WOMENâS OFFENSIVE
Chontiquah White, West Texas A&M University, SR, Center, Dallas, Texas, Life School Oak Cliff
White earned South Point Holiday Hoops Classic Most Outstanding Player honors as she led the Lady Buffs to
two wins over Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene as the Lady Buffs ran their winning streak to nine
games. The Lady Buffs claimed the Tournament Championship as the only undefeated team as White averaged
24 points and 12.5 rebounds for the tournament. She went 19 of 30 from the field and 10 of 13 from the line,
while pulling down 25 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end. White tallied her fourth double-double
of the season with 25 points and 17 rebounds in the Lady Buffsâ 64-63 overtime victory over WWU. The 17
rebounds tied her career-best. White has six games of over 20 points this season, including her last three. Her
48 points for the week gives her 1,337 career points which is 11th in school history.
WOMENâS DEFENSIVE
Madison McLain, West Texas A&M University, JR, Guard, Gruver, Texas, Gruver HS
McLain had a huge game at both ends of the court and earned South Point Holiday Classic All-Tournament
honors. McLain tallied a career-high 22 points and six triples against Northwest Nazarene Friday as the Lady
Buffs claimed the tournament championship as the lone unbeaten team. Against Western Washington the
day before, McLain and teammate Danielle Logan shutdown WWUâs leading score Katie Colard holding her to
three points on 1 of 7 shooting as she entered averaging 15 points per game. WT pulled out the thrilling 64-63
victory. McLain tied the for team-lead with seven steals on the week as she was 10 of 26 from the field and 7
of 18 from beyond the arc. She also had one block and three assists.

Chris Wyms, Eastern New Mexico University, led the Eastern New Mexico University menâs basketball team
with 19 points, three rebounds, two steals and a five-for-six performance at the free throw line. In the second
half against South Dakota Mines & Technology, he poured in 14 points.
David Chavlovich, West Texas A&M University, led the Buffs to two big wins on the road in Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla. last weekend, extending the Buffsâ win streak to four and giving the team its seventh win in the previous
eight games. Chavlovich led the team in scoring with 17.5 points per game on the trip including a game-high 20
points in a win over Nova Southeastern on Thursday. Between both contests, Chavlovich converted on seven of
his 18 attempts from beyond the arc while also adding nine assists, 10 rebounds, and two steals.
Jamaal Brantley, Cameron University, averaged 17 points in three contests for the Aggies last week while
shooting 61.5 percent from the field. In each of the three contests he hit double-figures with a career high 25
points against Dallas Christian in CUâs first 100 point night in seven years. Brantley went 17-22 at the stripe and
averaged 5.3 boards, while adding six assists and four steals.
Mo Lee, Tarleton State University, led No. 5 Tarleton State to pair of wins over national powers last week
on his way to being named the Most Outstanding Player of the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas.
Lee and the Texans opened the tournament with a 72-65 win over Western Washington, in which the senior
from the Bronx scored 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds. Lee followed up
that performance with a 14-point effort against No. 12 Drury, including the game-clinching free throws in the
final minute to give Tarleton a 64-60 win in a top-15 showdown. In his MVP performance at South Point, Lee
averaged 16.5 points per game with 33 total points in two games on 65 percent shooting from the floor. He also
added 12 total rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Troy Jones, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, averaged a team-high 16.5 points per game on 87 percent
shooting and 6.5 rebounds in two games this week... beginning the week in the Sunshine State, Jones filled up
the stat sheet, recording a team-high 19 points (8-of-9 from the field), eight rebounds, one block and one assist
against the University of Tampa, a team that advanced to the NCAA South Regionals last season... concluding
the week at No. 20 Our Lady of the Lake, Jones came off the bench and played the entire second half, scoring
14 points on 5-of-6 shooting and pulling down five rebounds - three offensive... the Javelinas finish the 2014
season 4-7.
Carl White, West Texas A&M University, once again led the Buffs defensively in two big wins over the
weekend in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. White led the team with 11 of his 14 total rebounds on the defensive end while
also adding five blocks and a steal. He helped the team hold opponents to .364 shooting and under 63 points
per game, including a lockdown of Missouri-St. Louis where the Tritons were held to .352 from the field. In that
contest, White put up 11 points while grabbing 10 boards, seven of which came defensively.
Demario Mayfield, Angelo State University, recorded the first triple-double in ASU program history after
scoring 14 points, recording 13 assists and securing 10 rebounds last Tuesday against Arlington Baptist. He
followed up that performance with his sixth double-double of the season when he had 17 points and 11
rebound in ASUâs win over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday. Mayfield averaged 10.5 rebounds per game over
the two games and now leads the Rams with 16.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this season. He also has
55 assists, 22 steals and is shooting 51.2 percent from the field through the first 12 games of the season.
WOMENâS OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Karli Moore, Tarleton State University, lifted Tarleton back into the win column in the TexAnnsâ last outing
as the senior recorded a career-high 16 points on 7-12 shooting against Concord in the Rollins Invitational
Tournament last week. Mooreâs 16 point-effort came in just 21 minutes as Tarleton routed Concord 79-59 to
improve to 6-2 on the young season. Moore also added three assists against the Mountain Lions.
Shauna Coleman, Angelo State University, had a career night against Arlington Baptist. The freshman
recorded her first career double-double to help the Belles to their fourth-straight victory. Coleman scored a
career high 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting and led all rebounders with a career high 11 including eight on the
offensive end.
Ashley Salazar, Texas Womanâs University, helped the Pioneers to their third straight win with a team best 15
points, eight rebounds and five assists against Wayland Baptist. She shot 67 percent of her shots and perfect
6-for-6 from the free-throw line. On the season she is averaging 10.5 points and leads the team with 84.2
percent from the free-throw line and 21 steals.
Tori Tucker, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong week and helped the ENMU womenâs
basketball team win two of three games. She scored all 17 points in the second half of Tuesdayâs win over
Northern New Mexico, and hit all seven of her shots in the final 20 minutes of play. She also had five rebounds
and two assists in the game. On Thursday, Tucker poured in 22 points, grabbed eight boards and two steals to
lead the Zias to a win over Florida Southern. She also had three assists in a setback to ninth-ranked University
of Tampa.
Micah Weaver, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, led Texas A&M-Kingsville in scoring (10.5) and rebounding
(5.0) in two games at the Seawolf Hoops Classic in Anchorage, Alaska. She was 5-for-12 from the field with
six rebounds, two assists and a steal against No. 3 Alaska Anchorage. The next day against Alaska Fairbanks,
Weaver totaled 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting, grabbed four boards and recorded a team-high two steals.
Kathy Thomas, Tarleton State University, continued her stellar senior season in Tarletonâs latest win against
Concord to wrap up the Rollins Invitational Tournament. The senior from Flint, Michigan led the team with eight
rebounds â including six on the defensive end â to go along with 10 points and four assists. Thomas and the
TexAnn defense held the Mountain Lions to 37 percent shooting from the floor and just 59 points in Tarletonâs
79-59 rout last week.
Jasmine Johnson, Eastern New Mexico University, led a defensive performance that helped limit the
opposition to just 63.3 points per game and lift ENMU to two wins in three games last week. She registered
a team-best six steals, 5.0 rebounds per game, and averaged 10.3 points on the offensive side of the floor.
Johnson poured in 22 points against ninth-ranked University of Tampa and had multiple steals in all three
contests.

Angelo State
The Rams improved to 11-1 overall and to 8-0 at the
Junell Center this season after recording a pair of
dominant wins over Arlington Baptist and Arkansas-
Monticello last week. ASU started the week with
a 99-67 win over Arlington Baptist before handing
the Weevils a 113-74 loss on Saturday. ASU is now
averaging 93.1 points per game and is outscoring
its opponents by a 29.4 scoring margin this season.
The team is showing exhibiting unselfishness which
has them with 263 assists (21.9 per game) and is
also proving difficult to score against with teams
averaging only 63.7 points per game with the Rams
having 130 steals this season. ASU returns from
the break with a game against York College on Jan.
3 before opening conference play against Tarleton
State on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the Junell Center. The
Rams were led last week by Demario Mayfield who
recorded a triple-double against Arlington Baptist
and then had his sixth double-double of the season
against UAM and also by Marsell Holden who hit 12
3-pointers in the two games. Chris Jones added 10
assists and averaged 10 points per game over the
week, while Raijon Kelly and Bilal Richardson each
averaged 12 points per game and Brentine Taylor
averaged 11 points. Richardson recorded his first
double-double of the season with 12 rebounds and
10 points against the Weevils.
Cameron
Cameron ended their fall section of the schedule
with a three game winning streak getting wins
against Bacone College, Southern Nazarene, and
Dallas Christian. In the three game streak, the Aggies
averaged nearly 94 points while shooting 57 percent
from the field. On Saturday against DCC, the Aggie
put up 111 points, which was their highest scoring
game since the 2007 season, and Bruce Barron dished
out 11 assists which is a seven year high. Jamaal
Brantley paced CU by averaging 17 points a game and
5.3 rebounds, while only playing 22 minutes in each
contest. Cameron Lee came away with 12.3 points a
game while shooting 46.7 percent from the arc, and
KeDorian Sullivan added 11 points with five blocks.
The Aggies will play an exhibition contest against the
University of Texas at San Antonio on Dec. 30 and
they will come back to play Northwestern Oklahoma
to start the new year on Jan. 3 in Lawton.
Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds suffered a tough loss at South
Dakota Mines & Technology, to snap a two-game
road winning streak. Chris Wyms paced ENMU with
19 points, which included 14 in the second half. The
Hounds will return to action on December 31, to host
Colorado State-Pueblo.
Midwestern State
2-0 last week.
Tarleton State
No. 5 Tarleton State faced its toughest test of the
young season last week when the Texans went to
Las Vegas for the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic
and remained undefeated after wins against Western
Washington and No. 12 Drury. The Texans opened
the tournament with a 72-65 win over Western
Washington, who entered the tournament having
scored over 100 points in three of their last four,
and wrapped up by knocking off No. 12 Drury in a
national top-15 battle. Davene Carter earned All-
Tournament status while Mo Lee was named the
Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament. Tarleton
will return to action against South Dakota Mines on
Dec. 30 in Stephenville.
Texas A&M-Commerce
1-0 last week.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas went 1-2 in three games this week and
conclude the 2014 season 4-7... the Hogs defeated
Eckerd College on Monday before falling to the
University of Tampa in overtime on Tuesday evening...
in Saturdayâs loss to No. 20 Our Lady of the Lake, the
Javelinas nearly came back from trailing by as much
as 16.
West Texas A&M
The West Texas A&M menâs basketball team went 2-0
on the weekend in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. with two big
wins over Nova Southeastern and Missouri-St. Louis.
Now on a four-game win streak, the Buffs have won
seven of their last eight games. The weekend started
with a 82-66 win over NSU on Thursday followed by
a 67-59 triumph over previously undefeated UMSL
on Saturday afternoon. WT will return to action with
back-to-back contests against Mid-America Christian
and Hillsdale Baptist on Jan. 2-3, 2015.

Angelo State
The Belles won their fourth-straight game with a 83-
49 win over Arlington Baptist ... It is the first four-
game win streak since the 2012-2013 season ... ASU is
scoring 65.4 points per game and have outrebounded
teams 42.6 to 39.3 ... ASU leads the league in
offensive rebounds per game at 42.6 and 3-pointer
field goal defense at 26.4-percent ... The Belles have
found their way to the free throw line 21.2 times per
game and making 14.4 per game ... The team has
averaged 3.9 blocks per game which is No. 2 in the
LSC.
Cameron
Did not play last week.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University womenâs
basketball team scored two decisive wins in three
games last week, with victories over Northern New
Mexico and Florida Southern. Jasmine Johnson had
the second 20-point game of her career, coming
against ninth-ranked Tampa. Sarah Stinnett reached
double figures in all three games, while Tori Tucker
accomplished the feat in two of the three. The Zias
will return to action on January 7, 2015, to open Lone
Star Conference play at Cameron.
Midwestern State
1-0 last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton State wrapped up its 2014 calendar year
with a 79-59 win over Concord in their final game at
the Rollins Invitational Tournament in Winter Park,
Florida. The TexAnns will return to action Jan. 3 in the
first Lone Star Conference game of the season against
Texas Womanâs in Denton.
Texas A&M-Commerce
0-1 last week.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped both games in
Anchorage, Alaska in the Seawolf Hoops Classic. The
Javelinas fell to No. 3 Anchorage Alaska 90-49 and
while falling short 75-60 to Alaska Fairbanks. Micah
Weaver led the team with 10.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 1.5
spg. She recorded 11 points off the bench against
the host Seawolves and 10 versus the Nanooks. Also
averaging double-digits in points was Lauren Jay at
10.0 a contest while making 66.7% from the field
and blocking two shots. Tessa Ramirez dished out a
team-best 2.5 apg. At the free throw line, Michelle
Wagner went 13-for-18. TAMUK is off until January
3 when they host Our Lady of the Lake in their final
non-conference game of the season.
Texas Womanâs
The TWU basketball team played just one game last
week and extended its win streak to three games
with an 83-71 victory over visiting Wayland Baptist
Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 7-4 on
the season before they take a break for the holidays.
Five players scored eight or more points led by senior
Ashley Salazar and sophomore Kenesha Saygo with
15 each. Sophomore Emily Spector added 10 points
while sophomore Taylor Nolan scored nine and junior
Danielle Westerfield chipped in eight. Freshman
Morgan Easley also added seven points. The Pioneers
shot an identical 41.9 percent in each half and made
26-of-33 free throws. TWU forced 16 turnovers and
scored 19 points off of them and had 18 second
chance points. The Pioneersâ bench also outscored
WBUâs bench, 41-2. On the season Spector leads the
team in scoring with 12.3 ppg while Salazar is second
with 10.5 ppg. Spector also leads the team with 6.2
rpg.
West Texas A&M
The No. 3/4 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs won the
2014 South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas,
Nevada, this week with a pair of hard-fought victories
over Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene
bothoutoftheGreatNorthwestAthleticConference...
The Lady Buffs extended their winning streak to nine
games and finished non-conference play 9-1...The
9-1 start is the exact same start WT had a season ago
when it reached the national championship game...
Against Western Washington, the Lady Buffs trailed
much of the game, but came back courtesy of 25
points and 17 rebounds from senior Chontiquah
White and outlasted the Vikings in overtime 7-6 for
the 64-63 win...Friday, the Lady Buffs struggled a bit
following the effort from the day before, but junior
Madison McLain and White were up to the task as
McLain tallied a career-best 22 points and six triples
as WT had a season-best 10 made 3âs in the game...
WT tallied 21 steals in the two games for a 10.5...
White and McLain were named to the all-tournament
team and White was tabbed Most Outstanding
Player...Western Washington and Southern Indiana
each finished 1-1 in the tournament while Northwest
Nazarene was 0-2...WT spoiled WWU head coach
Carmen Dolfoâs 500th win on Thursday with the win
in overtime...White moved over 1,300 career points
with 1,337 as she scored 48 points for the week
averaging 24.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in the two
games...The Lady Buffs now break for Christmas and
will open LSC play Jan. 7 at Midwestern State.
