3. Puberty
Humans pass through a stage known as puberty.
This brings about both primary and secondary
sexual characteristics.
Primary Sexual Characteristics - Males
In males,
(a) the penis enlarges.
(b) sperm is produced for the first time
and the male will experience erections. This is due
to engorgement of blood in the penis.
(c) The whole process is under the influence
of the hormone testosterone.

Primary Sexual Characteristics - Females
In females,
(a) the menstrual cycle begins, indicating
the release of fertile ovum.
(b) Enlargement of the labia of the vagina
and a change in hormone production.
(c) The hormones oestrogen and
progesterone are responsible for the menstrual
cycle of the female.
5. SECONDARY SEXUAL CHARACTERISTICS.
In the male

In the female

organ that carries sperm to the
vagina.
Prostate : The tissue that stores
sperm and the site of sperm
maturation.
8. Sexual Reproduction - Males
Scrotum : The site that houses
the Testes.
Seminal Vesicles : The site of
semen production.
Testes : The male gonads and
site of sperm production.
Vas Deferens : The tube that
carries the sperm from the
testes to the urethra and then
to the outside environment.
