2. Brief History of Marc Zuckerberg
Marc Zuckerberg originally studied psychology at
Harvard University (Massachusetts, USA). Previous to
developing Facebook Marc created social networking
for his uni friends, students. Coursematch was a site
that allowed the students at the university to discuss
their course. Aloes, Facemash is a site he created to
which you could rate peoples attractiveness in the
university.
3. The creation of Facebook
It was created in 2004, but was originally known as
‘The Facebook’. Within one month of it’s launch
over half the undergraduate population of the
university had a profile. Facebook was then
extended to other US universities like the Ivy
league. The domain name for the site,
‘Facebook.com’ was purchased in 2005 for
$200,000. Shortly after that Facebook spread to US
schools in September 2005, before spreading more
worldwide universities to places like the UK.
4. In September 2006, Facebook was used beyond
educational systems to anyone who had a
registered email. Its free to sign up to and makes
it profit through advertising. Companies like
Google and Yahoo have tried previously to buy-
out Facebook, but marc has refused to sell so
far.
5. Since 2007, the sites features have devolved to
allow users to post free classified advertisements
and to play on Facebooks applications. The current
amount of users in 2007 were 30 million.
Marc Zuckerberg was accused by Divya Narendra
and Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss of copying their
social network idea and coding, they developed a
site called ConnectU. The court case began in
September 2004 and dismissed in march 2007.
6. Statistics
June, 2004 Facebook received it’s first private
investment by Perter Theil, founder of PayPal,
for $500,000 for 10.2% of the company. After
being discovered by founder of Napstar, Sean
Parker became president of Facebook.
April 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram for
around $1 billion dollars.
February 2012, they have 845 million users, and
2.7 billion daily likes and comments.
