Lipogems Canine is committed to the responsible use of its technology in the veterinary
market. Only veterinary surgeons who have been trained and accredited by our team are
provided with Lipogems kits and authorised to use the technology. Unlike many other
veterinary treatments Lipogems® has come from the human medical world to the
veterinary world with published evidence and data. Two further veterinary practices in
the UK are currently working on our accreditation pathway and will be announced
shortly.
“We have been researching into regenerative medicine for about 5 years now. Obtaining
adipose MSCs from laboratory growth left us with a few concerns i.e. Multiple anaesthetics,
degeneration of samples while in transit and the possibility of sample mix ups.
“We looked at the possibility of preparing MSC’s in house. Obtaining them from bone marrow
seemed invasive and required a relatively large capital outlay on equipment, and space to site
the equipment. There would then be an ongoing cost for the extraction kits.
“We then came across Lipogems. No expensive equipment to be purchased, everything needed
for patient side preparation in the box, excepting fluid packs and a few ml of local anaesthetic,
and a straight forward preparation protocol.
“We have been using Lipogems on equine and canine cases for just over 18 months now on
joints, tendons and ligaments. All treated cases to date have shown dramatic improvements and
all our canine cases are being reported as sound by the owners.
Lipogems therapy has become an important part of our armoury both in improving recovery
from injury and maintaining quality of life for our arthritic patients.”

2. What is Lipogems Canine?
Lipogems® is an easy to use, rapid and cost-effective technique for harvesting and processing
adipose tissue derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells. Lipogems works by micro-fragmenting
adipose tissue (tissue harvested from fat) obtained from Lipoaspirates, through a non-enzymatic,
mechanical processing using the closed system and disposable device. Adipose tissue is harvested
using a vacuum syringe from around the flank of the dog under general anaesthetic, after the
region has been anaesthetised by local infiltration with sterile saline and adrenaline.
The harvested fat tissue using the Lipogems® device is washed in saline and gently agitated. The
whole procedure from harvesting to the injection is completed in less than 40 minutes in
surgery.

About Taylor Vets
Taylor Veterinary Practice is one of the oldest established veterinary practices in the
world and has been caring for animals in the community, as part of the Cathkin Estate,
for almost two hundred years. In 1826, Master Blacksmith, John Taylor (1801-1857) (1st
generation) moved from Cowgate in Edinburgh to Cathkin and founded a blacksmith
workshop ‘John Taylor Smithy’. The surgery is now known as ‘Taylor Veterinary
Practice’, a large RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) accredited small animal
practice. To this day, Taylor Veterinary Practice at Smithy House continues to work to
