2. Much better than Charter's lease modem, December 14,

Setting up is easy, connect it to the cable, cat5 to my laptop, and power, let it boot, connect
to Charter's install site to submit the MAC Address (automatic). Done. Hooking it back to my
wireless router, reboot both unit, whole house has internet, 30mins (most of the time is
waiting).
Onto the unit itself:
Much less errors, signal strength and signal power is better than the Charter lease modem
(same line, I guess is the moto magic). Also, there are WAY less uncorrectable codeword in
the log.
The user interface (logging into the modem) is also much easier to understand and use than
the charter modem.
Speed:
I'm getting slightly better speed with this modem than the charter one, ~1mbps better on
download, upload is the same.
Heat:
generates significantly less heat than the charter.

Wow. I usually don't believe hype. When improvement of 'x' is claimed it seems you're lucky
to get even 0.5x. But this modem increased download from 15-17MB to nearly 50MB as
tested on speakeasydotnet. Speed meter pegged. Note that I'm only paying for 20MB
download speed.
Upload unchanged at 3MB. This was for PC wired to router, but even the wireless
throughput increased from 5-7MB to 16-20MB in an office distant from wireless router. No
change in router or wireless adapter, so the wireless speed increase must be attributed to
this new modem.
Charter installation simple and done in 5 min. Plug in new modem, call Charter to give them
MAC address of modem. Charter sends sync signal, modem lights come on in sequence and
bam! Superfast connection.
Only had it for two days so can't speak to longevity and stability of modem, but so far, A+.
Plus, I get to return Charter's rented modem, so this new one should break even in 10-11
months.

Our previous internet services included Roadrunner; and Centurylink. We had no problems
with our equipment with either of them. We have been with Charter now for 3 months. The
service and installation was the worst I have ever seen. I wish I had done a UTUBE. Our
system was being booted off the net all the time.
The service rep told us it was our equipment at fault. We removed their modem which we
were renting and this new Motorola solved all problems. We do not even need a new router-
although the charter service rep told us we needed to get one. I have read reviews of
people renting equipment and they continuously say " Do Not Rent Their junk". We
upgraded to 30MPS and our computers are very able to handle the faster speeds.
The modem Charter was providing was not appropriate for the upgraded service we have
been paying for. The failure of Charter to take responsibility and fix the problem, or refund
us for failure to provide the servie we were paying for could never be resolved until today
when the truth machine was installed- Motorola's Modem is for Daul band High Speed.
Until today our router could not light up to green because the signal was switching so fast
that the router could not identify it. Today our router went green and is steady on.
I have not had this kind of super fast hi speed service until today. We have been paying for
three months for Hi Speed Max but were being delivered torment and frustration instead.

SB6120 and Charter, April 12, 2010

I bought this modem to replace the Charter rented modem I was using. My connection
speed had been bumped up to a 25M connection and the old modem was providing erratic
connection speeds. Hooking this unit up to my ISP and Apple Time Capsule couldn't be
easier. I didn't even have to turn off the router or the computer. I just unplugged the power
on the old modem, disconnected it, connected and plugged in the new modem, and called
Charter and gave them the MAC address. Several minutes later the connection was up and
running.
This modem works very nicely with Charter. Both my up and down speeds improved.
Downstream during the off peak hours usually tests 30M - 35M and upstream is pretty
constant at a bit over 3M. The downstream portion also stays pretty much about 25M
throughout the day and only drops off during the really heavy traffic periods. I am definitely
glad I bought this modem and would recommend it.
Finally Getting What I Am Paying For, May 25, 2011

When I signed on with Charter Internet, 9 months ago, I ordered the premium internet
service, as I planned to stream a lot of video (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc). Things
worked fair, but, there was a lot of buffering time - especially on High Definition videos.
Also, something would jam and the modem and router needed to be reset every day or two.
I had replaced the old router, with minimal improvement. I never suspected the cable
modem (provided by Charter) of being the bottleneck in the system. After reading up on the

4. subject (inc the reviews here) I decided to give this Motorola a try. It arrived the next day
and I readied myself with a host of numbers I was sure I would need for Charter Tech
Support.
I hooked it up and cabled it to my netbook. A screen came up, from Charter, advising that it
detected a new modem, and did I want to register it? 90 seconds later, it reset and I was off
and running. I checked download speeds and what had been 7 to 20 Mbps were now 29 to
53 Mbps.
But the REAL test was to run a particular Netflix HD movie at Peak usage time (5 to 8 pm).
This particular movie would Never play more than 3 mins without freezing to buffer. Well, it
played through without a pause or a hiccup. This morning it is still online with no re-setting.
It uses a DOCSIS 3 technique called Bonding, or coupling two or more channels to stabilize,
and increase download performance. Charter supports this in my area but their company-
provided modem does not. This new one supports this and shines by comparison. So .. I am
now getting the internet service I have been paying for all these months, and will save $5 a
month after returning the modem that wasn't doing the job
In Conclusion
If you have been renting the cable modem from Charter and you are getting poor
performance from that modem or if you would like to save your rental money,
then you should invest in the Motorola SB6120. As a recap, you enjoy the
