ANNE
FRANK
THE VIEW OF THE WAR THROUGH A
YOUNG TEENAGE GIRL.
EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY
 Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt am Main Weimer,
Germany on June 12th, 1929
 Lived most of her life in Amsterdam.
 May 1940 the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. In 1941 the
Franks lost their citizenship because they were Jewish.
 Anne’s family consisted of Otto Frank, Edith Frank, and
Margot Frank.
 Attended Montessori school until 1941. She then went to a
Jewish school.
 On her 13th birthday Anne received a diary, where she
wrote for two years until she was forced to stop.
 On Monday, July 6th 1942 – the family went into hiding.
THE SECRET ANNEX
 July 1942 the family moved into hiding. The
family had to move into hiding early
because, Margot got summoned for labor
camp July 5th.
 The hiding place is in Otto Frank’s office
building.
 People that were close friends with the
Franks, who also worked in the building,
helped inform them with outside news, and
supply for food and essential needs.
 Eight people ended up living in the Annex.
 The members in the Annex had to remain
quiet during the day because of the working
crew below them.
 Anne wrote many things that happened in
the Annex in her diary.
ABOUT ANNE FRANK
Anne Frank’s full name was Annelies Marie Frank. She was
known to be outspoken, energetic, and outgoing. She took a
great interest in the Royalty family, and many famous actors
and actresses. At one point in her life she wanted to be an
actress, but then decided she wanted to be a journalist. Her
life was some what normal until Hitler took over. Her life was
completely turned around when she went into hiding. The
only way she felt like she could express herself was through
her diary. This, she didn’t know at the time, would become
the closest insight to the Holocaust.
ANNE’S DIARY
 Anne named her diary “Kitty”
 Her diary entries were written from June 12th 1942 to
August 1st 1944.
 After the war her dairy was published in 67 languages with
over 30 million copies sold.
 Anne wanted her diary to be published after the war.
 Meip Gies found Anne’s Diary and kept it for safe keeping.
She then later gave it to Otto, the only survivor of the
family.
 Otto then fulfilled Anne’s wishes by publishing her diary.
 Her diary was published in 1947
ANNE’S DIARY HAS BECOME ONE
OF THE MOST POWERFUL
MEMOIRS FROM THE
HOLOCAUST.
THE ARREST
 On August 4th, 1944 the hiding place was discovered.
 After the arrest the group was taken to Huis van Bewaring.
(overcrowded prison)
 September 3rd the lady Franks were sent to Auschwitz
death camp.
 They were to haul rocks and dig rolls of sod
 Anne became badly infected with scabies.
 Edith died of hunger a few day after Anne and Margot were
relocated to Bergan-Belsen.
 Both Anne and Margot died of Typhus in May of 1945, only
a few days before their camp was liberated.
AFTER THE WAR
 Otto Frank was the only immediate family member who
survived.
 1 million Jewish Children died in WWll
 The betrayer of the Franks still remains unknown today.
 A man named Simon Wiesenthal, a concentration camp
survivor and Nazi hunter, tracked down a man named Karl
Silbebaur. When confronted, he confessed he arrested
Anne Frank and her friends and family.
In spite of everything I still
believe that people are really
good at heart. I simply can't
build up my hopes on a
foundation consisting of
confusion, misery and death.
