This Technology Plan is critical because:<br />It extends the steps listed in the Memo, which addressed Digital Equity as a priority.<br />It encompasses staff and student learning objectives, along with equipment and program expectations and goals.<br />It provides direction for a large scale implementation of materials, expectations, and resources.<br />Rationale<br />

Planning Team<br />In order to create an all inclusive plan, one that does not exclude any segment of the district’s staff or students, we need to ensure that we recruit a substantial cross section of the district’s employees.   17. 17. Community Business Member(s) </li></li></ul><li>Once the team is assembled, research begins. The process begins as outlined in the first section of the Memo, titled “Evaluation and Incorporation.” We first need to find out where we are in terms of equipment, use and knowledge of equipment, and current student achievement. Then we need to write down where we want to be as a district in terms of technology. This is called our Vision Statement. Upon discovering that, we can then lay out a sensible path towards those goals, called our Mission Statement. Once we have our starting point and goals determined, we can then construct the Technology Plan. This construction phase will be fairly long, probably a year. Adequate time is needed to explore various paths and ideas that come up. Eventually the Technology Plan will be formalized, and finished to a point. However, the plan will be in a constant state of evaluation and open to the possibility of revision mid stream. As portions of the plan are implemented, others may be revised to incorporate new goals. The cycle will continue for several years, at which time an entirely new plan might be constructed.<br />Process Description<br />
  18. 18. The Vision of East Public Schools is:<br /><ul><li>For instruction styles to address all types of learners, whereby technology is seamlessly incorporated into each lesson.
  19. 19. For students to actively engage in their own education, meeting Michigan Standards and Benchmarks and National Educational Technology Standards along the way, and therefore becoming responsible members of a global society.
  20. 20. For the East Public Schools to provide ample technology resources for those students and citizens that are otherwise digitally inequitable, so that they may have equal opportunities as citizens living in other areas.</li></ul>Vision Statement (example)<br />
  21. 21. Professional Development: We will provide professional development which will further the understanding and implementation of technology in the classrooms. The professional development will support programs already in use so that those programs are used at maximum potential. <br /><ul><li>Assess the staff for technology skill levels. (2008- 2009)

  25. 25. Curriculum: We will integrate technology throughout all areas of the curriculum to improve student learning.   38. 38. New ideas need to be implemented to revive the effectiveness of “Staff Development.” <br /><ul><li>Peer Partner Idea- Attend workshop together. Partners would then be given small blocks of release time to create a lesson using their new information to teach a unit relevant to both of their classes. They would then team teach that lesson to one of each of their classes. It is not as overwhelming to integrate a new technology concept if you have a buddy there to help you out.
  39. 39. Staff input or staff chosen professional development day makes the day more worthwhile to many teachers.
  40. 40. Incentives for teachers who take the initiative to attend professional development outside of the district’s planned sessions, or for staff who are innovative with technology use in their classroom. </li></ul>Staff Development<br />

The Technology Plan cannot be created and then sit on a shelf to collect dust until its “expiration date.” Regular intervals should be set at which point an evaluation should be done to see whether the district still aligns with the vision and mission statements, and whether or not the district is on the correct path to meet the goals and objectives. Updating and tweaking of the plan should take place at this time. I recommend that a subcommittee is formed whose sole purpose is evaluating the steps of the plan as they are accomplished. There is no benefit to waiting to evaluate step two until after all 46 steps are completed. Accuracy will be higher if the step is evaluated while its efficiency is still fresh in the minds of the participants. This could be a committee from within the Planning Team, or outside participants that come in with a fresh perspective on each step and therefore might more accurately evaluate it without bias or prior knowledge. <br />Evaluation and Research<br />
  42. 42. Research would also be an important criteria for comparison. Results from this district could be compared to the results of another to aid in our understanding of success. At the end of the Technology Plan’s cycle, an all inclusive evaluation would be preformed, which would include the smaller, step- specific evaluations. At this time, it would be decided whether or not the plan was a success, which portions to move forward with, and which portions to consider overhauling in the next plan.
