1. MSc in Banking and Finance 2009-10
Dear Student,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Newcastle University Business
School.
Providing our students with the skills to develop and succeed in the international business
world is fundamental to our mission. Drawing on our research expertise and knowledge of the
changing business environment we have developed a range of postgraduate programmes to
offer the diversity, innovation and quality associated with the worldwide reputation of
Newcastle University.
Now that you have chosen to study with us I would like to give you further information on the
induction and registration process you will need to attend commencing Monday, 21st
September.
Masters Programmes, with the exception of Master Business Administration and MA
International Business Management, will participate in a joint induction session on Monday,
21st September before breaking into programme specific groups later that day. A number of
other activities have been arranged for you between Tuesday, 22 September and Friday, 25
nd th
September and you should consult your individual programme induction schedule for these
times and venues.
The following information may also be of help:
Online Registration:
You will shortly receive a Welcome Pack in the post which contains essential information you
will need before you arrive in Newcastle. This information is also available online at:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/pre-arrival/
May I draw your attention to the following document which contains details about how you
register with the University for the start of your programme of study: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/pre-
arrival/pack/documents/RegistrationInformationforNewStudents.pdf
2. (This information is also available in Section B – ‘Registration’ in the Welcome Booklet which
you will receive in the Welcome Pack). Please note that most of the registration process can
be completed online BEFORE you arrive in Newcastle, and we strongly recommend that you
do this as soon as possible.
Smart Card Collection
Students should then make their way to the Kings Road Centre to collect their SMART card.
Kings Road Centre will be open from Wednesday, 16th September until Friday, 25th
September, during these dates there will also be an Information Service provided at the Kings
Road Centre
Language Centre Assessments
These are for all students where English is not their first language and involve two 45 minute
assessments. The assessments are compulsory but do not have a pass or fail outcome, they
are used to assess if students require further assistance with English. Please report to the
Language Centre at least 15 minutes before the assessments begin in order to be seated in
time. Once the assessments are underway late arrivals will be refused access. Students must
also take their registration form with them to the assessments. Please make your own
individual appointment to take the assessments by going to the Herschel Building.
Library Guided Tours
Students are asked to report to the Library Induction Desk, Robinson Library, where they will
be welcomed to the Library and given a guided tour of the facilities. Each course has been
allocated a specific time slot to try to avoid unnecessary queuing; however anyone unable to
make this can make their own individual arrangements.
International Conference
This is offered by the University to all our International students and provides useful
information on support and assistance available. It is highly recommended that international
students attend. A programme of events being held throughout the year is also available in
the student information pack.
