The Southern Steel is a netball team formed in 2007 from the merger of the Otago Rebels and Southern Sting. Based in Southland, the 12-player team is coached by Robyn Broughton and her assistants. In their debut season in the ANZ Championship in 2009, the Steel finished 4th, demonstrating the team and individual attributes of communication, determination, and commitment that make them successful. They are supported by numerous local sponsors.
