4. Method
1. To start off we cut a hole in the cleaned out bottle. Then we stuck
a straw through the hole and bent half of it around on the outside
so that could be the motor. After that we hot glued around the hole
so that nothing could get in or out. We had to be careful that we
didn’t melt the plastic. Then Mrs Weir poured in vinegar using the
funnel until it was one third full. After that we got given baking
soda wrapped in tissue. When we got to the pool we took the lids
off. Someone had to put a finger over the straw so that nothing
came out and someone else poured in the baking soda. We had to
get the lid on fast, shake it up and put it in the pool.
2. For the second boat we added popsicle sticks on the bottom so
that it stayed stable. We also put baking soda in first then the
vinegar.
5. What boat do you think worked
better?
Boat 1
Boat 2
6. Yes
boat 1
The Popsicle sticks worked well and it
didn’t tip. We were too slow though
and there wasn’t enough gas. More
vinegar & baking soda would make
more gas but we would need a better
way to get them into the bottle and get
the lid on time.
7. No
Boat 2
We could see gas coming out but
most of them tipped on their sides!
We decided that we needed
something to keep it flat. It was fun
