Introduction
Our survey is focused on a very common chronic disease called Trisomy 21, which is
commonly known as Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the
presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21.
It is typically associated with physical growth delays, characteristic facial features, and mild
to moderate intellectual disability. Abnormal reproductive cells do not carry out the functions
of a reproductive cells and replicates an extra copy of chromosome 21. Those with Down
syndrome nearly always have physical and intellectual disabilities. As adults, their mental
abilities are typically similar to those of an 8- or 9-year-old. They also typically have poor
immune function and generally reach developmental milestones at a later age. They have an
increased risk of a number of other health problems, including congenital heart disease,
epilepsy, leukaemia, thyroid diseases, and mental disorders, among others.
However, in both men and women worldwide, not much people know about some hard facts
about it. In this survey, we had prepared some questions regarding Down syndrome, such as
the symptoms of Down syndrome, causes of
Down syndrome and the effects of Down syndrome. We also included some facts that are not
commonly known about lung cancer like the probability of cultural effects and life
expectancy of a Down syndrome patient. What we want to learn through this survey is the
comparison of knowledge of Taylor’s students between females and males. We will analyse
the ratio of the answers from our respondents to learn how much the students here
understands about Down syndrome.
4
Objectives
We have chosen to focus on Taylors students of female and male respondents for our survey
question. Our objectives of the survey are firstly, to test and compare the knowledge of both
student genders about Down syndrome as people often misunderstand the causes and
symptoms of Down syndrome. Secondly, we are to get an accurate result from different
people as we have a minimum of 300 personal individual targets. This way, we could create a
fair statistic to compare the results. Lastly, we are to complete everything and then come to a
conclusion of the survey.
5
METHODOLOGY
Since we were targeting 300 Taylors students for the survey, each of us were responsible to
survey 50 respondents each, of course those that finished earlier could help the others to
complete and pass the surveys around.
We used two ways to survey the respondents. One, we used the conventional survey forms
and distributed them when we see a potential respondent. The second, we also utilized
Google Docs to make digital a survey page so that we can send the forms efficiently via
social medias such as Facebook. Our respondents include family members, relatives, friends,
strangers, students and staffs in Taylors’ University. We later transferred the data received
into forms. We spent 2 weeks of surveying from 27th of December to 9th of January, and
then gathered the information together to do the statistics analysis.
After gathering all the completed survey forms, a total of 159 females and 142 males, each of
us analyse our own 50 forms, (me and David shared a 101 forms between us) and then
gathered all the information together to make our statistics analysis for this report. We first
discuss with each other about the calculations needed and the appropriate diagrams to portray
the information, and we transfer all the information into the report.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we have acquired enough information to understand the students’ level of
understanding of Down Syndrome. From the statistics analysis, we could see that the female
class has only got 5 questions higher than the male class while the male class has 10
questions higher than female students. Besides, the male class has also answered a higher
percentage of correct answers compared to the female classes. Therefore it could be
concluded that male students has a higher understanding of Down syndrome compared to
Female students.

  • 3. 3 Introduction Our survey is focused on a very common chronic disease called Trisomy 21, which is commonly known as Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. It is typically associated with physical growth delays, characteristic facial features, and mild to moderate intellectual disability. Abnormal reproductive cells do not carry out the functions of a reproductive cells and replicates an extra copy of chromosome 21. Those with Down syndrome nearly always have physical and intellectual disabilities. As adults, their mental abilities are typically similar to those of an 8- or 9-year-old. They also typically have poor immune function and generally reach developmental milestones at a later age. They have an increased risk of a number of other health problems, including congenital heart disease, epilepsy, leukaemia, thyroid diseases, and mental disorders, among others. However, in both men and women worldwide, not much people know about some hard facts about it. In this survey, we had prepared some questions regarding Down syndrome, such as the symptoms of Down syndrome, causes of Down syndrome and the effects of Down syndrome. We also included some facts that are not commonly known about lung cancer like the probability of cultural effects and life expectancy of a Down syndrome patient. What we want to learn through this survey is the comparison of knowledge of Taylor’s students between females and males. We will analyse the ratio of the answers from our respondents to learn how much the students here understands about Down syndrome.
  • 4. 4 Objectives We have chosen to focus on Taylors students of female and male respondents for our survey question. Our objectives of the survey are firstly, to test and compare the knowledge of both student genders about Down syndrome as people often misunderstand the causes and symptoms of Down syndrome. Secondly, we are to get an accurate result from different people as we have a minimum of 300 personal individual targets. This way, we could create a fair statistic to compare the results. Lastly, we are to complete everything and then come to a conclusion of the survey.
  • 5. 5 METHODOLOGY Since we were targeting 300 Taylors students for the survey, each of us were responsible to survey 50 respondents each, of course those that finished earlier could help the others to complete and pass the surveys around. We used two ways to survey the respondents. One, we used the conventional survey forms and distributed them when we see a potential respondent. The second, we also utilized Google Docs to make digital a survey page so that we can send the forms efficiently via social medias such as Facebook. Our respondents include family members, relatives, friends, strangers, students and staffs in Taylors’ University. We later transferred the data received into forms. We spent 2 weeks of surveying from 27th of December to 9th of January, and then gathered the information together to do the statistics analysis. After gathering all the completed survey forms, a total of 159 females and 142 males, each of us analyse our own 50 forms, (me and David shared a 101 forms between us) and then gathered all the information together to make our statistics analysis for this report. We first discuss with each other about the calculations needed and the appropriate diagrams to portray the information, and we transfer all the information into the report. Students Filling In Survey

From the statistics analysis, we could see that the female class has only got 5 questions higher than the male class while the male class has 10 questions higher than female students. Besides, the male class has also answered a higher percentage of correct answers compared to the female classes. Therefore it could be concluded that male students has a higher understanding of Down syndrome compared to Female students.
