What is NOW? NTU Online Workspace Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Used since beginning of the 2008/2009 academic year Collection of tools to supplement face-to-face teaching Support Technology Enhanced Learning - not using technology just because it is there but to support learning and teaching 13 15 March 2011
How is NOW set up at NTU? Each module and programme has an online area known as a Learning Room All students enrolled on this module or programme are members of the Learning Room in NOW This information is fed into NOW from Banner (the student database) There are also links from NOW to NTU Email, library resources and timetables. 15 March 2011 14
How is NOW integrated with other systems at NTU? 15 March 2011 15
NTU Minimum Standards Minimum Standards in Online Learning and Teaching Requirements. Created to help define how NOW will be used to support programmes and modules at NTU It focuses on both the provision of online information and blended learning Gives students a common expectation of access to course resources NOW can be used to facilitate these standards. Accessibility and Copyright should always be considered when uploading materials to NOW 15 March 2011 16

  2. The term 'eLearning' can mean different things; names and descriptions are used inter-changeably, from eLearning to online learning, to technology enhanced learning and teaching (TELT).
  3. Reveal after learners have mention some technologiesTechnologies can include classroom applications (e.g. projectors), mobile technologies (e.g. smartphones) through to online technologies such as NOW (Nottingham Trent Online Workspace), TurnitinUK (online text-matching service), Microsoft Live Meeting (online meeting and conferencing tool), blogs and wikis.
  4. All these tools extend the boundaries of the teaching space, both physically and intellectually. At NTU we use many different technologies to help both staff and students. NTU aims to blend new technologies into existing learning and teaching delivery (lectures, seminars, workshops, face-to-face tutorials) to support, maintain and enhance the quality of the learning and teaching (and research) experience for both students and staff.Therefore, we embed technologies in mainstream learning and teaching practice, not because the technology exists, but to derive meaningful enhancements and exciting innovations which support the way we teach and learn
