 My chosen genre was rock
and roll and during research
stage I found there were only a few music videos like we
see today however there were recorded performances. I
used the conventions such as 1950’s microphone and
vintage clothing to showing clear connotations of the time
period. Nevertheless, I challenged the real media of 1950
by using today’s technologies such as in post-production
I am able to use many effects such as cuts, fades
dissolves etc..
 As well as already using similar camera
angles and shots I have also developed this
further by adding in close ups on the artists
face. This was very important in relation to
star image. By adding close ups and various
angels of my artist will help sell the ‘pretty
boy’ image. Moreover I have also
incorporated pans, this adds a verity of
movement within my video and keeps the
audience engaged.
 From watching many recorded performances,
many of them were on a stage or had a plain and
simple back drop. From this I took the idea of
using the simplistic back drop which was a blue
curtain in the theatre, representing being on
stage and performing to an
audience.
 Moreover, by using the same
mise en scene this also
challenges real media due
to the strong narrative
about Felix and his
childhood sweetheart.
 1950's fashion was everything; clean-cut singers like
Bobby Darin inspired teens everywhere. The preppy
uniform In the Beatles music Video, ' She loves me '
consists of pressed slacks, button-down shirts, V-neck
sweaters, shiny loafers and short hair. For my chosen
track, to stick to the genre I need to stick to the area that
the genre relates to but on the other hand there was the
much harsher look of the greaser.
 The boy rocker look was a leather jacket, tight jeans and a
white t-shirt like Elvis Presley in jailhouse rock. Girls would
have worn poodle skirts with a dog or music note patch,
pencil skirt, stockings and form-fitting shirt like in the
musical Grease.
 I took the classic look and generalised
the costumes so the era and genre was
Easily recognisable.
 In todays music videos we rarely see children
involved with music videos.
 To challenge this I incorporated 2 young
children aged 10 to allow the audience to
relate themselves to the music video as well
as break down the barrier of the rubbish we
see today such as nudity, drugs, violence and
un-aprochable behaviour.
 By having children involved this gives an
incite to decoding the message of the
audience’s ‘childhood sweetheart’
 Overall, my music video uses a lot of
conventions from pervious media texts. By
incorporating the inspiration from these, the
1950’s twist would have been tricky to
portray. Obviously we are now highly
developed in technologies that I was able to
use towards my video. By developing it
slightly I was able to aim this at my audience
without it being tedious to them.
