2. Successes
 1849-1856 The North Carolina Railroad opens
 1856- Started the intracoastal waterway
 1874- Stagecoach service to charlotte is
discontinued, travelers now use trains
 1887- Electricity has proven itself in Charlotte now
that lights have been installed.
 1889- North Carolina’s first electric street car
begins service in Asheville

3. Failures
 1854- Plank road connection Fayetteville with
Bethania
 Plank roads destroy the wheels on the wagons
 The overland trail was a long dangerous road
which you could get attacked by native
Americans.
 The Oregon Trail was also a very dangerous
trail.
 Stage coaches were failures because they broke
easily.
