Answer each section of every question separately.

1 (a) List two features of the extract that fit the conventions of the situation comedy genre. [4]

      (b) Briefly explain how each feature is typical of the situation comedy genre. [4]

2 The sequence before the titles tries to be fast and lively. Explain how one example of each of the
      following shows this:

      •      the acting                                                                              [4]
      •      the soundtrack                                                                          [4]
      •      the camerawork                                                                          [4]
      •      the editing.                                                                            [4]

3 How does the extract show that Everybody Hates Chris tries to appeal to a family audience?

      You may wish to consider aspects such as: setting, casting and characters, scripting, and the
      overall style of the programme. [12]

4 In this question you are asked to write about situation comedies you have studied.

      You may not use Everybody Hates Chris as your main choice, but you may discuss how the
      programmes you have studied are similar to, or different from, Everybody Hates Chris.

      (a) Do situation comedies have more similarities than differences? Discuss with reference to two
          or more other programmes you have studied. [12]

      (b) Explain three pleasures of situation comedy using at least two programmes as examples.
                                                                                            [12]

                                                                                        Total = 60 marks
