2. • It is imperative to incorporate technology in
the classroom, especially at such a young
age. In Kindergarten, children are just
becoming exposed to a structured school
setting, and the introduction of certain skills
are going to take a while for them to master.
When introducing the skill of recognizing and
naming all upper and lower case letters of
the alphabet, it is crucial to include different
mediums for the students to use (in order to
keep their attention on the details of the skill
being learned). By integrating technology in
this particular topic, Kindergarten students
will gain a deeper understanding of the skill
of recognizing and naming all upper and
lower case letters of the alphabet through
various uses of technology, which will further
help them master this skill.
3. • All of the information that is used in this
presentation have been proven to be
reliable when learning the foundational
skill of recognizing and naming all upper
and lower case letters of the alphabet
• For the entirety of the presentation, the
graphics may be clicked and will direct
the viewer to the website
7. • Sesame Workshop – Sesame
Podcast has created podcasts
and videos to go along with the
podcasts for each letter of the
alphabet
• Throughout the podcast and
videos, the characters from
Sesame Street sign songs that
have words that begin with a
specific letter and show
different pictures of those items
• The students can listen to these
podcasts and watch these
videos every time they are
learning a new letter
8. • Reading Rockets
• Reading Rockets is an organization that helps
teachers increase student knowledge of the
alphabetic principle. This helps teachers integrate
lessons that focus on helping students learn that
letters “represent the sound of the spoken language”
(Texas Education Agency 2002).
• Orton Gillingham Multisensory Phonics
• This agency stresses the use of multisensory
techniques, specifically while teaching
beginning spelling/literacy. This is a great tool for
teachers to use because it discusses the various
benefits to using multisensory techniques.
• Teacher Reading Academics
• This academy focuses on beginning reading skills
and print awareness. It provides teachers with
different strategies, lessons, and activities to help
their students learn and master these concepts.
11. • ABC Caterpillar- The teacher will
create a caterpillar head and body
parts using milk caps
• The teacher will label each milk
cap a different letter of the
alphabet (with both the upper
and lower case letters) and place
them in a shoe box
• The students will work in pairs to create
the caterpillars in alphabetical order
• For more practice with
recognizing letters, the students
can take turns (in their pairs)
saying a letter and their partner
will be responsible for finding that
letter and placing it in the shoe
box
• The process will be repeated for
the other partner while taking
12. • The Alphabet Skills
Workbook provides
worksheets for students to
practice tracing the upper
and lowercase letters
• Then, the students will
write the letters on their
own
• Each worksheet provides a
picture that directly relates
to the letter being learned
(which may be colored in
after completing the writing
portion)
13. • ABC Letter Tracing is an app
that allows students to
physically trace the letters
of the alphabet (both upper
and lowercase) on the
screen of a tablet.
• While tracing the letters, the
students will be guided by
arrows with the proper way
to form the letters
• If they do not follow the
arrows correctly, they
must trace the letters
again
• This app incorporates
animals that the students
are familiar with, making it a
fun yet engaging learning
experience
14. • ABC Alphabet – Kids Touch and
Learn is another app that allows
students to work on mastering
their alphabet skills
• This app makes the sound of a
letter, and the students are
responsible for figuring out
which letter (from the list
provided) is the correct letter
that matches the sound
• This app will help increase
students visual and auditory
alphabetical recognition skills
15. • Abcya offers many effective games that
focus on mastering upper and lowercase
letter skills
• Alphabet Bingo is one of the games that
the students can play to work toward
mastering their letter name and letter
sound skills
• This website is a great teaching tool that
can be used to assist student learning in a
fun and very effective way
16. • This website offers great
interactive games for the
students to play
• The ABC game shows a
letter (in both upper and
lower case) and shows
three pictures beneath it
• The students are responsible
for picking the picture that
begins with the letter that is
shown
17. • KidSpace Story Hour provides stories with illustrations for the
students to view on the internet
• The teacher can bring the story up on the Smartboard and
have the students circle the letter that they are working on
that day
• For example: The story “Mousie’s Adventures” can be read
on the day the students are learning upper case “M”
– While reading the story, the students can come up and circle the upper
case M’s that they see
18. • Cool Tools for Schools is a collaborative website
that allows teachers to collaborate ideas and
strategies to help keep effective teaching in the
classroom!
• This website has many tools, some of which
include: Writing tools, Mapping tools, Audio tools.
• This website places stress on the importance of
collaboration – when teachers collaborate they
are able to share new ideas and implement
success within their classrooms.
• This website can help enhance
student learning about the letters
of the alphabet by introducing the

This song is a great way to get the students involved with recognizing and naming all of the letters (both upper and lower case) in the alphabet, which are portrayed throughout this story (which is essentially teaching the students the alphabet in a non-traditional way). This song will be played before we read the book together as a class (in order to introduce the students to what we will be reading) and after we finish reading (in order to remind the students what they just read). The purpose of “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” is to introduce the alphabet to the Kindergarten students in a new, fun, and exciting way.
The students will sing along with the teacher. The use of this YouTube video is important because it allows the students to retell what they just read in a fun and energetic way. This is very important at this young age, because they are not used to sitting still for long periods of time. This will give them the opportunity to get up, move, and sing, all while working on their alphabet skills!

This blog was created by Lidia Barbosa. It provides different ideas for crafts and journals which focus on helping kindergarten students practice and master their alphabet skills. This blog is wonderful, because it provides different activities that will help the students master their alphabet skills in a fun and unique way. My favorite activity that is provided is the “beginning sounds” craft. The teacher can assign a letter and come up with something that starts with that letter – for example: S. Snow starts with S. The teacher then gathers the ingredients (in this case, baking soda and white conditioner) and has the students work hands on to create their own snow. The students then practice writing the upper and lower case letter Ss in their homemade snow! This is a great activity for kindergarten students, because it allows them to be hands on and actually feel what they are learning.

These images come from Pinterest. Pinterest can be used as a very beneficial tool for education. I simply searched “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Retell” in the search box, and dozens of different retell activities came up. These activities can be used to help the students create the alphabet (both upper and lower case letters) in an exciting and engaging way!
Teachers can use Pinterest in order to find different activities for their students. This is also great when differentiating lessons, because the activities on Pinterest appeal to all different types of learning styles and learning levels.

This beginning letter activity was created using Kidspiration. This activity will be used after the teacher reads “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and the students have had the proper exposure to the letters of the alphabet. This is a great learning tool for the students to complete for the teacher to assess if they are understanding the letters of the alphabet and if they need more exposure and practice with certain letters. This activity is for practice is lower case letters.
This activity is the same as the previous activity, but it is for practice with upper case letters.
