3. Thehistory In 1837 Queen Victoria movedtothepalace. AfterhermarriagetoPrince Albert in 1940, theflawsofthepalaceshowedup. Blorewashiredagaintoincreasethesizeofthepalace. In 1913 thefacadewaschangedbySirAstonWebb. ThepalacewasfinallydonebeforetheoutbreakofWorldWar I in 1914.
4. The Grand Staircase The grand staircaseis a perfectexampleof John Nash’sExtavagance. The balustrade isdecoratedwiththepattern of acanthus, oak and laurel leaves. Queen Victoria displayedportraitsofherfamilyaroundtheupper part ofthestairs.
5. TheWhiteDrawing Room The room hasoneofthemostoriginalceilingdesigns. At each end of the room two pairs of ebony-veneered cabinets with gilt-bronze mounts are built into the wall beneath tall mirrors.
6. TheRoyalMews The Royal Mews provides road transport for The Queen and members of the Royal Family by both horse-drawn carriage and motor car. All oftheroyalcarriages are storedinthemews.
7. Thepalacetoday ThePalaceis a workplacefor 450 people. ThePalacehas 775 rooms. ItistheweekdayhomefortheQueen and Prince Philip. Itisalsothe London residenceforthedukeof York and theEarl and CountessofWessex.
