Kirsty Reeve edited a film project using the Splice app on Apple. She found the layout of the app was easy to use as everything was clearly labeled with images. To edit, she trimmed and cut individual video clips to fit them together in the order decided by the group. She also removed sound from most clips to increase tension with music instead of dialogue. When putting the single videos together, she faced problems with fully using the app and making slow motion transitions, but resolved them by spending time adjusting to the software and screenshotting transition moments.
2. THE APP WE USED
• FOR THE EDITING I USED THE APPLE APP
SPLICE.
• I FOUND THAT THE LAYOUT OF THE APP
ITSELF WAS EASY TO USE.
• IT CLEARLY SHOWED YOU HOW TO USE
THE APP, FOR EXAMPLE EVERYTHING WAS
LABELLED WITH IMAGES SO THAT YOU
COULD EASILY UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT
SECTION DONE.
3. THE LAYOUT
• I HAVE TAKEN SCREENSHOTS OF THE APP TO SHOW THE DIFFERENT PROCESSES
THAT HAVE TO BE TAKEN WHEN EDITING.
4. OUR EDITING
• TO START WITH WE EDITED EACH OF THE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS BY
TRIMMING AND CUTTING THEM TO MAKE THEM FIT TOGETHER.
• I ALSO TOOK THE SOUND OF MOST OF THE VIDEOS AS WE CHOSE
NOT TO HAVE DIALOGUE IN THE FILM APART FROM THE ENDING.
• WE DONE THIS SO WE COULD INCREASE THE TENSION MORE WITH
MUSIC INSTEAD.
5. STEP BY STEP
As you can
see I edited
a few of the
videos and
then I put
them
together to
see if they
flowed with
each other.
6.
7. • ONCE I HAD EDITED
ALL OF THE SINGLE
VIDEOS I THEN PUT
THEM IN THE ORDER
THAT THE GROUP
DECIDED ON AND
THEN WE FOUND SOME
MUSIC ON THE APP
AND PLACED IT WHERE
WE WANTED
8. • AT THE START OF THE FILM THE DECISION WAS
MADE TO HAVE DIALOGUE BECAUSE WE FELT AS IF
IT WOULD SET THE REST OF THE FILM UP FOR
WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN.
• FOR THE PART WHERE CODI IS WALKING TOWARDS
THE CAMERA WITH NICK, WE CHOSE TO MAKE IT
IN SLOW MOTION AS IT ADDS TENSION AS WELL AS
SUSPENSE, BY DOING THIS WE ARE MAKING THE
VIEWER QUESTION WHAT SHE IS THINKING AND
WHAT SHE IS GOING TO DO NEXT.
9. A PROBLEM WHILST EDITING
• WHEN EDITING THE FINAL VIDEO A PROBLEM THAT WAS FIRST FACED WAS THE FACT
THAT WE DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO FULLY USE THE APP.
• THIS PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY SPENDING TIME ADJUSTING TO THE SOFTWARE SO
THAT WE COULD EDIT OUR FILM.
• ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT WAS FACED WHILST EDITING WAS MAKING SOME OF THE
SLOW MOTION TRANSITIONS. THE DIFFICULT PART WAS THE TIMING BECAUSE I HAD
TO FIND THE RIGHT TIMING ON EACH OF THE SPLIT VIDEOS.
• THIS PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY SCREENSHOTTING THE SPECIFIC MOMENT WHEN
THE TRANSITION WAS GOING TO BE, BY DOING THIS IT MEANT THAT WE KNEW
EXACTLY WHAT FRAME WE NEEDED TO CUT TO SO THAT IT TRANSITIONED
SMOOTHLY.
