  2. 2. What is the problem? • Fossil fuels are cheap • EVs not yet competitive on a cost basis to combustion engine • Lithium battery costs are still too high to compete with fossil fuels • $200/kWh → $100/kWh

How does product/service solve problem? • Metal oxide powders are used to create Li cathodes • Using a novel solvent, MU researcher Chad Xing has developed a flame process for producing metal oxide powders at about 50% of the current cost of cathodes • Cathodes make up ≈ 30% of Li battery cost
