Introduction
 There was a time when the
boundaries between work and
home were fairly clear
 Today work is likely to invade
our personal life and
maintaining work-life balance is
no simple task
 Creating balance needs
organization, discipline,
strategies and efforts, resulting
happy family relations and a
successful career
Work - Family Connection
 Work or Profession defined as
an earning to live
 Today it is meant for lot of
things around us such as
sophistication, luxury,
challenges, pride, esteem,
knowledge and many more
Work - Family Connection
 Both men and women in their
longer and faster run forget
their real heaven on earth
 Madly run after virtual heaven
leaving back their children
speaking with cartoons with no
one around to take care
Work - Family Connection
 Family is the place where
peace, relaxation, happiness,
energy prevails
 Professionals consider that
they do not have enough time
to care for the family which is
actually a wrong notion
 Family is the only boost to any
emotional man and it is the
one, which would give you a
hike in professionalism too
Work - Family Connection
 People run behind yoga and
other stress management
ignorantly forgetting that they
could get all those calm and
peace in the family they failed
to care
 It is where we learn what
sorrow is, what troubles are,
how management is to be done
and finally what peace and
happiness are
Work - Family Connection
 A person who cannot withhold
a good family can never be a
successful business person
 It is of course very important to
take care of profession
 Are we going to pay our
happiness, family and the soul
of living to the pace acquired?
Work - Family Connection
 Children left off in childcare
centers and parents left off in
old homes peel the truth that
our affection and love gone to
money instead of family
 Communication reduced among
family member
Work - Family Connection
 Understanding being converged
and misunderstanding is being
diverged
 These issues slowly creep into
a person’s life when he shifts
their attention only toward their
profession
Work - Family Connection
Work - Family Connection
For whom do you earn for?.........For whom do you struggle a
lot?
Work - Family Connection
 A morning wish to your
parents, a hearty anniversary
wish to your wife and a happy
play with your kids is what the
real happiness is all about
 A good professional must be
well behaved and very good
with his speech with his clients,
why should not he be the best
to his family
Work - Family Connection
 Child follows his parents as a
role model in life
 If parents are too busy with
profession they are with, how
could child possible be good at
his age?
 Going to work getting fame
living luxuriously does not make
your children happy at all
Work - Family Connection
Problem arises only when equilibrium gets disturbed between
work and family
Work - Family Connection
 Uncared children tend to hate
the community they live in, the
parent, the society
 Preserving the need of youth
status is an alarming need for
every country
 It is our duty to preserve the
good for our future generation
to live in peace
Work - Family Connection
 Consider family and profession
to be the railway line
 Train is derailed even if one
track has a small crack in it
 Family and professionalism
must meet and continue to
function hand in hand
 Both are mutually occurring
events and will have impact on
each other equally
Work - Family Connection
 A crystal clear balance
between professionalism and
family is brightly essential to
one’s life
 This balance would encourage
real love in family
 We will be considered the role
model and dream model to our
kids and friends whom we
maintain cordially
Work - Family Connection
"A sound relation in a sound profession"

work you are likely to spend thinking or worrying about it
 as a person’s weekly hours increase, so do their feelings
of unhappiness

of women compared with 29% of men), which is
probably a consequence of competing life roles and
more pressure to 'juggle'

Strategies to Attain Balance
Identification of Balance Blockers
 Balance blockers are well thought
out as things or bit which restricts
person maintaining equilibrium
between work and home
 Identify cause why you are not
being able to keep up the
equilibrium between two of vital
parts of your life
Strategies to Attain Balance
Identification of Balance Blockers
 Expectations of other peoples,
consideration of other’s
requirement before yours, afraid
of changes, hung up on look,
diligence are considered as
equality blockers for any one in
their life
 Identify them and try to abolish
them from your life
Strategies to Attain Balance
Assessment of Mind
 Prepare the mind firstly
 Important to understand to
separate both the fields from
mixing with each other
 Don’t think about home while
you are at work and when you
are with your family avoid
bringing up your business there
Strategies to Attain Balance
Establish priorities
 Decide what takes precedence
when both areas of your life
need nurturing at one time,
thus creating a conflict
 Should not have to neglect one
to take care of the other, so
determine which one is the
most pressing at the time
Strategies to Attain Balance
Establish priorities
 If your child is sick, you should
choose to stay with your child
because sickness is more
pressing than a regular day at
work
 Preparing for a scheduled
meeting should take
precedence over a day at the
park
Strategies to Attain Balance
Establish priorities
 you can decide what is needed
to nurture work and family
 Don't beat yourself up if work
obligation conflicts with family
commitment
 Decide which should take
precedence by determining
significance of each
Strategies to Attain Balance
Leave Work AT Work
 When you are away from the
office, actually be AWAY from
the office
 We bring our work home with
us and ignore those around us
 When at home, switch off from
work and spend time with
family and friends
Strategies to Attain Balance
Prepare Family Goals and Establish a Deadline
 You have to fulfill your
responsibilities at work, but you
may not always do the same at
home
 Families grow so fast that
oftentimes we make plans to do
things with and for the family,
but they never come into fruition
Strategies to Attain Balance
Prepare Family Goals and Establish a Deadline
 By writing goals down and
scheduling them, you are
committing yourself to doing
them
 Just make sure that you follow
through to aid in achieving
work-family balance
Strategies to Attain Balance
Revise Your Calendar to Benefit your Family
 If you can get more time with
your family because work
allows it, then take advantage
of that
 There may be times when work
is consuming and you feel as if
you are neglecting your family
Strategies to Attain Balance
Revise Your Calendar to Benefit your Family
 Just make sure that these
moments of imbalance are
compensated accordingly and
that you regain your family and
career balance as soon as
possible
Strategies to Attain Balance
Develop Your Time-Management Abilities
 If you organize yourself well,
there should be no reason why
you cannot give time to your
family
 Time-management skills also
means learning how end your
day at work and begin your day
at home
Strategies to Attain Balance
Develop Your Time-Management Abilities
 This may also mean learning
how to say "no" when a work
colleague asks you to help on a
project that you just cannot fit
into your schedule

. Pressing problems
. Deadline-driven projects,
meetings, preparations

Strategies to Attain Balance
Keep Communication Lines Open with Your Family
 Keep communication lines
open with your spouse, kids
and don't be afraid to voice
your concerns about the lack
of imbalance between home
and work
 Accordingly, don't be afraid to
listen when your spouse
accuses you of the same
Strategies to Attain Balance
Keep Communication Lines Open with Your Family
 Work and home balance
should be respected by both
parties in order to be
successful
Strategies to Attain Balance
Make the Most of Your Off Time
 Must make your free time just
as important as your work time
 Plus, if you don’t have a clear
mind outside of work, that is
only going to affect your
productivity and efficiently while
at work
Strategies to Attain Balance
Make the Most of Your Off Time
 Vacation each year is an
important part of maintaining
that balance, as getting away
from it all helps both you and
your family to relax and reduce
stress
Conclusion
 The important thing to balance profession and family is
saying no to unimportant events
 By planning everything before, anyone can balance both
 Ultimate goal of anyone is happiness and peace

  1. Bismillah   Gentlemen, I am Captain Muhammad Imran General Manager (Quality Control & Admin) Submarine Construction Department PN Dockyard. The topic of my today’s presentation is “Balance between Work and Family”
  2. I will cover the presentation in sequence as flashed:
  3. In today’s time we are suffering from various kinds of issues such as exhaustion, restlessness, low productivity and many stress related issues. These are simply considered as the result of lack of ability for maintains the balance between our personal and professional life. But now we have to think about solving this problem very seriously
  4. Balance can be defined differently by different peoples. People have their own meaning of work, responsibilities, achievements and goals but the common thing is the meaning of balancing among two phases of life.
  5. Work-family balance is a broad and complex phenomenon, which may be defined as the “extent to which an individual is equally engaged in and equally satisfied with his or her work role and family role”.
  6. Work-life balance consists of three components i.e time balance, Involvement balance and Satisfaction balance
  7. a. Time Balance refers to equal time being given to both work and family roles   b. Involvement Balance refers to equal levels of psychological involvement in both work and family roles and finally   c. Satisfaction Balance refers to equal levels of satisfaction in both work and family roles
  8. There was a time when the boundaries between work and home were fairly clear. Today, however, work is likely to invade our personal life and maintaining work-life balance is no simple task. Still, work-life balance isn't out of reach. Creating this balance needs organization, discipline, strategies and efforts, acted upon which will ensure a healthier balance resulting happy family relations and a successful career
  9. Work or Profession was basically defined to have an earning to live. However, today it is meant for lot of things around us such as sophistication, luxury, challenges, pride, esteem, knowledge and many more. The world of competition has of course printed it foot far well into professionalism. Professionals today strive really energetic to come out with their best.
  10. Both men and women in their longer and faster run forget their real heaven on earth. They madly run after the virtual heaven leaving back their children speaking with cartoons with no one around to take care
  11. Family is the place where peace, relaxation, happiness, energy prevails. Professionals consider that they do not have enough time to care for the family. It is actually a wrong notion. Family is the only boost to any emotional man and it is the one, which would give you a hike in professionalism too.
  12. People run behind yoga and other stress management ignorantly forgetting that they could get all those calm and peace in the family they failed to care. It is where we learn what sorrow is, what troubles are, how management is to be done and finally what peace and happiness are
  13. A person who cannot withhold a good family can never be a successful business person with holding a lot of people with diverging characters and varying thoughts.   It is of course very important to take care of profession. After completing a professional degree and attending queue of interviews with lots of efforts, day and night one might have acquired the job. In the long of run of competition, today withholding the job is very important. Everyday turns out to be a “Doomsday Conspiracy” to several who have struggled vigorously to get into the pace of competition. Therefore, it is far more important to take care of it and cope up with the pace acquired. However, are we going to pay our happiness, family and the soul of living to the pace acquired?
  14. Children today left off in childcare centers and parents left off in old homes peel the truth that our affection and love has gone to money instead of the family. People have started to fail caring and loving though they pass a lot of tough exams. Communication has been reduced among family member
  15. Understanding is being converged and misunderstanding is being diverged. All these issues slowly creep into a person’s life when he shifts their attention only toward their profession. It does not mean that one has to put a full stop to the profession he has acquired. It means that one who is shrewd to with hold the competition in his profession must also be shrewd enough to withhold the balance in both profession and family.
  16. Remember the saying,” You are some on to the world, but you are the world to someone”.
  17. Just think yourself, ”For whom do you earn for?”, “For whom do you struggle a lot?”
  18. A morning wish to your parents, a hearty anniversary wish to your wife and a happy play with your kids is what the real happiness is all about. Professional means not only an expert in job; it must mean the expert with all. A good professional must be well behaved and very good with his speech with his clients, why should not he be the best to his family
  19. A child follows his or her parents as a role model in life. If the parents are too busy with the profession they are with, how could the child possible be good at his age? Apartment culture, old age homes, junk food, unhealthy livings are some of the side effects of so-called uncaring professionalism. There is no regular way of living in such professionalism. Going to work getting fame living luxuriously does not make your children happy at all.
  20. The professionals care a lot for their profession than for their children. The problem arises only when the equilibrium gets disturbed between work and family
  21. Uncared children tend to hate the community they live in, the parent, the society. Possible they could fall into illicit hands. They may soon get addicted into drugs or other anti-social activities.   Preserving the need of youth status is an alarming need for every country. Youths are the wealthiest resource of a country. As we are the citizen’s of this world, it would be our duty to preserve the good for our future generation to live in peace. Care your responsibility and plane the future. Professionals need not be taught to do things. They must know how to do things.
  22. One has to consider family and profession to be the railway line. The train is derailed even if one track has a small crack in it. However, this analogy could also be wrong because railway lines do never meet and they move in parallel. Nevertheless, this is not the case with family and professionalism. They must meet and continue to function hand in hand. Both are mutually occurring events and will have impact on each other equally. One cannot even consider them to be the pairs of eyes of a man, because vision exists even when you lose one of your eyes. It could be considered as the brain and heart of the human boy. Soothing a helping hand in hand for the sound functioning of our physic. Here I would designate family as “heart” which would be the first and the last in our life. Profession could be considered as “brain” to human body
  23. A crystal clear balance between professionalism and family is brightly essential to one’s life. This would not only make our life very peaceful but also powerful. This balance would encourage real love in family. We will be considered the role model and dream model to our kids and friends whom we maintain cordially. A “hello” and “hi” to our friends is not going to pay us a million in the business we do. Hence, a healthy relation in both must be maintained for a healthy living
  24. "A sound relation in a sound profession"
  25. Research has established that conflict between the work and family domains has a number of significant negative consequences for individuals. The biggest consequence of Work-Family conflict may be viewed as a stressor for individuals. Research has observed work-family conflict to be associated with a myriad of indicators of poor health and impaired wellbeing including:
  26. poorer mental and physical health; less life satisfaction; higher levels of stress; higher levels of emotional exhaustion; less physical exercise; higher likelihood to engage in problem drinking; increased anxiety and depression levels; poor appetite and; fatigue
  27. It is estimated that nearly three in every ten employees in UK are experiencing a mental health problem. However the recent and dramatic rise in Britain’s working hours would suggest this is likely to increase. One in six people in the UK work more than 60 hours a week. It is also estimated that stress-related sick leave costs British industry £370 million every year, or approximately 91 million working days. This is half of all days lost
  28. A Mental Health Foundation survey found:   one third of respondents feel unhappy or very unhappy about the time they devote to work   more than 40% of employees are neglecting other aspects of their life because of work, which may increase their vulnerability to mental health problems   when working long hours more than a quarter of employees feel depressed (27%), one third feel anxious (34%), and more than half feel irritable (58%).
  29. the more hours you spend at work, the more hours outside of work you are likely to spend thinking or worrying about it.   as a person’s weekly hours increase, so do their feelings of unhappiness.   many more women report unhappiness than men (42% of women compared with 29% of men), which is probably a consequence of competing life roles and more pressure to 'juggle'
  30. nearly two thirds of employees have experienced a negative effect on their personal life, including lack of personal development, physical and mental health problems, and poor relationships and poor home life Not only does work-family conflict cause problems for individuals, but it is also detrimental to organizations
  31. There can be many knock on effects for organizations in many areas as a result of employees experiencing work-family conflict. Work-life conflict has been found to be associated with:   decreased employee job satisfaction; increased staff turnover and absenteeism; lower performance and increased job stress levels; and intention to leave the organization
  32. Work-life conflict may also incur economic costs for the individual, society and the organization. Job stress is estimated to cost industry in the US more than $300 billion a year in related costs such as absenteeism and reduced productivity
  33. It is estimated that productivity losses due to personal or family health problems cost US employers $225.8 billion a year. In the US, more than half of adults report that family responsibilities are a source of stress and 55% indicated that they experienced work-family conflict in the past 3 months.
  34. Not only does work-family conflict affect organizations, but it can also affect individuals through a loss of pay and medical expenses. Personal costs may also occur for the individual. It is found that higher levels of work-family conflict predicted lower levels of familial support, and higher levels of familial support predicted lower levels of family-work conflict
  35. The balance blockers are well thought out as the things or a habit which restricts a person maintaining equilibrium between work and home. You have to indentify the cause why you are not being able to keep up the equilibrium between two of the vital parts of your life.
  36. Mainly, the expectations of other peoples at home and at work, consideration of other’s requirement before yours, afraid of changes, hung up on look, diligence are considered as the equality blockers for any one in their life. Identify them and try to abolish them from your life
  37. If any person want to make harmony between their offices and home than they have to prepare their mind firstly. It is very important for them to understand to separate both the fields from mixing with each other. Don’t think about home while you are at work and when you are with your family avoid bringing up your business there
  38. Even if you feel that both your work and family are important, you have to decide what takes precedence when both areas of your life need nurturing at one time, thus creating a conflict. You should not have to neglect one to take care of the other, so determine which one is the most pressing at the time
  39. For example, if your child is sick but you have to go to work, you should choose to stay with your child because the sickness is more pressing than a regular day at work. In contrast, preparing for a scheduled meeting should take precedence over a day at the park.
  40. Only you can decide what is needed to nurture your work and family. Don't beat yourself up if you find that a work obligation conflicts with a family commitment. Decide which should take precedence by determining the significance of each, and then learn from the experience
  41. When you are away from the office, actually be AWAY from the office. So many times we bring our work home with us and ignore those around us. When at home switch off from work and spend time with family and friends
  42. This parallels your efforts at work to prioritize your objectives. You have to fulfill your responsibilities at work, but you may not always do the same at home. Families grow so fast that oftentimes we make plans to do things with and for the family, but they never come into fruition. Examples include a trip somewhere or a home improvement project.
  43. By writing these goals down and scheduling them, you are committing yourself to doing them. Just make sure that you follow through to aid in achieving work-family balance
  44. If you can get more time with your family because work allows it, then take advantage of that. There may be times when work is consuming and you feel as if you are neglecting your family.
  45. Just make sure that these moments of imbalance are compensated accordingly and that you regain your family and career balance as soon as possible
  46. If you organize yourself well, there should be no reason why you cannot give time to your family. Time-management skills also means learning how end your day at work and begin your day at home
  47. . This may also mean learning how to say "no" when a work colleague asks you to help on a project that you just cannot fit into your schedule.
  48. For better understanding of time management, a chart is shown on slide containing important aspects.   The Quadrant I, represent things that are both “urgent” and “important” – we need to spend time here. This is where we manage; we produce, where we bring our experience and judgment to bear in responding to many needs and challenges. Many important activities become urgent through procrastination, or because we don’t do enough prevention and planning   The Quadrant II, includes activities “important, but not urgent”- Quadrant of Quality. Here’s where we do our long-range planning, anticipate and prevent problems, broaden our minds and skills. Ignoring this Quadrant feeds and enlarges Quadrant I, creating stress, burnout, and deeper crises for person consumed by it. Investing in this Quadrant shrinks Quadrant I   The Quadrant III, includes things that are “urgent, but not important” - Quadrant of Deception. The noise of urgency creates the illusion of importance. Actual activities, if they’re important at all, are important to someone else. Many phone calls, meetings and drop-in visitors fall into this category   The Quadrant IV, reserved for activities that are “not urgent, not important”- Quadrant of Waste. We often “escape” to Quadrant IV for survival. Reading addictive novels, watching mindless television shows, or gossiping at office would qualify as Quadrant IV time-wasters
  49. Keep the communication lines open with your spouse, kids and don't be afraid to voice your concerns about the lack of imbalance between home and work. Accordingly, don't be afraid to listen when your spouse accuses you of the same.
  50. Work and home balance should be respected by both parties in order to be successful
  51. To have a good balance between work and life you must make your free time just as important as your work time. Time spent with friends and family doing activities and relaxing to help to obtain that balance. Plus, if you don’t have a clear mind outside of work, that is only going to affect your productivity and efficiently while at work
  52. Go on vacation. A vacation each year is an important part of maintaining that balance, as getting away from it all helps both you and your family to relax and reduce stress. Often times we return to life with a better outlook and are more prepared to go and conquer the business world
  53. The important thing to balance profession and family is saying no to unimportant events. By planning everything before, anyone can balance both. Only one of these can't fulfill a person. We should remember the fact that the ultimate goal of anyone is happiness and peace
