Chile is a long, narrow country located on the western edge of South America. It has a mountainous terrain along the Andes Mountains and a coastal plain along the Pacific coast. Chile's capital and largest city is Santiago. In 1960, Chile experienced an earthquake measuring 9.5 on the Richter scale, the most powerful ever recorded. This quake killed over 1,600 people. In 2010, Chile had another large earthquake measuring 8.8 that caused billions in damages and displaced over 1.5 million people.
