2. My Bridge
s I built a beam bridge with just a piece of paper and paperclip. The
books had to be 20 cm. apart. It held the weight of 100 pennies. I
looked up pictures on the internet and one of the pictures gave me an
idea. My bridge is built the Manchac Swamp bridge.

3. Suspension Bridges
A suspension bridge is
hung by cables which hang
from towers. The cables
transfer weight to the ground.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a
suspension bridge. They
started constructing the bridge
on January 5, 1933 and ended
in 1937. It is located in San
Francisco, California. It cost
over 35 million dollars to
construct. Before bridges were
built the main transportation
was ferries.

4. Beam Bridges
s A beam Bridge is made up of
two or more supports holding
up a beam. The Manchac
Swamp bridge is a beam bridge.
It is located in Louisiana and is
the second longest in the United
States. This bridge carries
Interstate 55 across the swamp.
It is about 22.80 miles and
costs about 196 million dollars
to build. They opened it 1979.

5. Arch Bridge
s An arch bridge is a bridge where
weight is carried outward along two
paths curving. The Navajo Bridge is
an arch bridge in Arizona. It is
actually is two bridges right next to
each other but they have the same
names. They both cross over the
Colorado River and Marble Canyon.
They are part of Route 89A. It
takes you toward Utah and the rim
of the Grand Canyon. They started
building in 1927 and finished in
1929. It is about 157.80 miles long.

6. Cable-stay Bridge
s A cable-stay bridge is a lot like a
suspension bridge except they go
straight to the road deck and not
from tower to tower. The John
James Audubon is a cable-stay
bridge It is located in Louisiana
and crosses the Mississippi. It
was officially connected on
December 29, 2010 but wasn’t
opened until May 5, 2011 due to
flooding.

7. My 2nd bridge
s I built my bridge like the John
James Audubon bridge. It is
a cable-stay bridge. It is
made out of five cups, a piece
of yarn, and clay. It held the
weight of 100 pennies and
the books were still 20 cm.
