3. Imam Bukhari Early education (820-826) He underwent his early education under the guidance of his mother in his native city and by the age of eleven he finished his elementary studies and started to study hadith and memorized over 2000 Hadith. By age 16 he had memorized all the books of Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, al-Wakee` & and other learned companions of al-Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah be pleased with him).
6. Imam Bukhari His Journey for Learning At the age of sixteen, he, together with his brother and widowed mother made the pilgrimage to Mecca. From there he made a series of travels in order to increase his knowledge of hadith. He went through all the important centers of Islamic learning of his time, talked to scholars and exchanged information on hadith. It is recorded that he stayed at Basrah for four or five years, and in the Hijaz for six; while he traveled to Egypt twice and to Kufah and Baghdad many times. Our Journey for Learning Our Journey, though not as hard as the Imam’s, was still in many ways tedious. I am sure we all had to make many sacrifices to achieve what we set out too. We should be inspired by our Imam and seek knowledge even if it takes us to the far corners of the world. We should make every effort to seek out and listen to scholars and never let an opportunity pass
