COURSE OVERVIEW : The next wave of computing is in the Cloud! Increasingly businesses
want to get out of the complexity of managing data centers and instead focus on their core
competencies. This means that more and more businesses will adopt cloud computing as a means
to handle their IT requirements which gives them the freedom from day-to-day management of IT
infrastructure.
Cloud Computing is one of the fastest growing paradigms in the IT industry today. As per a
leading research firm IDC, worldwide spending on Cloud services will reach $42 billion by 2012.

B.TECH. COMPUTER SCIENCE
With specialisation in Open Source Software & Open Standards
COURSE OVERVIEW : The Open Source and Open Standards movement in the IT World is
gaining momentum by the day. As end-customers clamor for more freedom of choice and lower
costs, they demand openness in application architecture and free of charge source code. The IT
industry which has thrived on IP for decades, then needs to move to higher levels of creating value,
leaving lower level value creation to OSS players.
This ongoing dynamics is helping Open Source software players to mature their offerings rapidly,
so that a large number of end-users can take advantage of free of charge software and source code.

The technical workforce for Linux has increased manyfold in the last few years and this is just the
beginning. As the trained technical workforce fills only 1/3rd of the Linux jobs at present, the
future is bright for Open Source enthusiasts.
Here are a few examples of a career in Open Source Software & Open Standards:
• Open Standards Domain Vertical Solution Architects
• Open Source Software/Linux System Administration and Security Specialists
• Software Engineer / Application Development / Maintenance / Testing using open source
software tools
• Project Management – Open Source Software implementation

Apart from Open Source, the issue of Open Standards is an important too. Special focus is on
Industry open standards, aligned to vertical domain such as Retail, Healthcare, Banking, Insurance,
etc. There is growing realisation in the IT world that end-customers reside in industry verticals.
That’s why there is increasing focus on domain expertise and skills. This skilling can be more
effective when the learning is aligned to industry open standards, so that the applications they
support, conform to already accepted interfaces and standards.

B.TECH. COMPUTER SCIENCE
With specialisation in Business Analytics

It is very advantageous to a student in the coming years to align to a vertical industry or at least to
know one or two industry vertical application domains based on open standards. This will prepare
the student to face the live-project situation when one passes out from higher education into the IT
industry. Students would then find themselves more ready for the real world, and would find their
chances of success increased manyfold.

Business Analytics (BA) refers to the skills, technologies, applications and practices for continuous
iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive
business planning. Analytics may be used as input for human decisions or may drive fully
automated decisions. Analytics have been used in business since the time management exercises
that were initiated in the late 19th century. IBM Business Analytics software helps organisations
better understand, anticipate and shape business outcomes.

True freedom of choice for the end-customer is available only when the architecture of an industry
application software conforms to Open Standards, and the software is written using the principles
of Open Source. This combination provides complete vendor neutrality to an end user, since both
the data structures as well as the source code is available to them.

The demand for industry vertical expertise is growing hugely. As more and more IT Companies
align their products and services with specific vertical industry requirements, they need
professionals who know that industry well. Which is why, jobs in industry segments are growing
very rapidly.

CAREER AVENUES : IBM has been one of the leading proponents of Open Source Software &
Open Standards in the industry. Developing a career with Open Source Software along with Open
Standards domain vertical knowledge will enrich the students’ profile manyfold.
The economic slowdown has led to organisations seeking optimisation of their IT budgets, and in
that process seriously examining the possibilities of migrating to Open Source solutions and
software to address to their needs. The adoption of Open Source in enterprises will automatically
imply a need for employees/students seeking employment, having/gaining familiarity with Open
Source technologies.

Here we look at some of the opportunities that students can assess in order to begin a career in the
Open Source domain.
The career path for a professional will typically start from a programmer or developer, and then
with experience, such a professional will handle responsibilities such as implementing, deploying
and architecting the strategies around open source product deployment for an organisation. With
experience, professionals can then venture into the consultancy arena, or can move up to be a
strategy officer for an organization, to directing the complete open source adoption or initiative
within the enterprise by evaluating products which will be the best solution for the organisation.

COURSE OVERVIEW : The world has become smarter. Humans interaction in the spheres of
business and domestic needs is changing drastically. The amount of data generated because of
these actions is gigantic. It is natural that enterprises want to understand this data and so as to
provide better customer service, increase consumer confidence and improve business. The effect is
profound and can be seen across all the Industries such as telcos, insurance, healthcare, etc.

CAREER AVENUES : A career in Business Analytics is one of the primary focus areas in industry
and is gaining great recognition and adoption across many industries. Since there are very few
companies in the end-to-end hardware to software solutions for Business Analytics, IBM is
well-poised to lead in this space. Many companies require resources in this area and proper human
resource has emerged as a challenge. This course helps professionals to tap into these huge
requirements and serve industry and society in the following ways :
• Database Administrator
• Business Analytics Specialist
• Business Analytics Modeler
• Data Mining Specialist
• Statistical Analyst (SPSS)
• Business Intelligence Specialist (Cognos)
• Data Warehousing Specialist
B.TECH. COMPUTER SCIENCE

THINKING QUOTIENT IS THE FUTURE. WE THINK THEREFORE, WE
ARE. WE EVOLVE, BECAUSE WE THINK. SO HOW DOES THINKING
QUOTIENT EVOLVE? While thinking creatively comes naturally to every
individual, higher thinking quotient requires fertile ground and an
enabling environment to blossom. It needs a constant diet of knowledge

encouraging ecosystem.

Thinking Quotient. Thinking Quotient, is going to be the competitive
advantage in the 21st century and this is only attainable through
high-quality education imparted through a complete cutting-edge
thinking ecosystem, that develops mature Thinking Quotient as a
continuous process. Galgotias University is exactly such a thinking
ecosystem. A Thinking Universe that develops Thinking Quotient.

This skilling can be more effective when the learning is aligned to industry open standards, so that the applications they support, conform to already accepted interfaces and standards. B.TECH. COMPUTER SCIENCE With specialisation in Business Analytics It is very advantageous to a student in the coming years to align to a vertical industry or at least to know one or two industry vertical application domains based on open standards. This will prepare the student to face the live-project situation when one passes out from higher education into the IT industry. Students would then find themselves more ready for the real world, and would find their chances of success increased manyfold. Business Analytics (BA) refers to the skills, technologies, applications and practices for continuous iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive business planning. Analytics may be used as input for human decisions or may drive fully automated decisions. Analytics have been used in business since the time management exercises that were initiated in the late 19th century. IBM Business Analytics software helps organisations better understand, anticipate and shape business outcomes. True freedom of choice for the end-customer is available only when the architecture of an industry application software conforms to Open Standards, and the software is written using the principles of Open Source. This combination provides complete vendor neutrality to an end user, since both the data structures as well as the source code is available to them. The demand for industry vertical expertise is growing hugely. As more and more IT Companies align their products and services with specific vertical industry requirements, they need professionals who know that industry well. Which is why, jobs in industry segments are growing very rapidly. CAREER AVENUES : IBM has been one of the leading proponents of Open Source Software & Open Standards in the industry.
