Anne de Visser is associate professor at the University of Amsterdam. After obtaining a Ph.D. degree
in Physics in 1986 he became post-doctoral researcher at the Low Temperature Research Center of the
CNRS in Grenoble. In 1989 he joined the faculty staff at the Physics Department of the University of
Amsterdam, where he is currently PI in the Amsterdam Quantum Matter group. His research focuses
on the investigation and understanding of collective phenomena in novel materials, for example
quantum phase transitions and unconventional superconductivity. The research has a strong
fundamental component, with an experimental expertise in measuring the transport, magnetic and
thermal properties of bulk and 2D materials under extreme conditions, such as very low
temperatures, high pressures and very strong magnetic fields. In addition, he uses muon spin
rotation/relaxation and neutron scattering techniques at large scale facilities to investigate quantum
matter on the microscopic scale. Typical model systems are strongly correlated electron systems,
heavy-fermion superconductors, ferromagnetic superconductors and topological insulators/
superconductors.
