Mapping is a technique that consists at receiving several inputs of the same model, and use them
to create a 3D model based on the input received. The main purpose of this technique in medical
applications is to use several 2D images (for instance MRAs, X-Rays, etc) to build a 3D image
or model of the body part that needs to be analyzed/studied, to develop a solution in case of an
issue, or to be able to study it without an invasive procedure. Due to that, mapping would
prevents a lot of risk for doctors and patients, because it would allow the doctors and specialists
to check the model and make decisions concerning to the case.
The forward mapping consist in taking the image matrix and transform it into a "slice" of the
3D model, linking with the previous images from the model, to eventually build the full model
based on every slice.
The backward mapping consist on the inverse process, or a partial process. It receives the 3D
model, and it is specified which section it is needed, and it is de-composed into the required
slices, or decompose the full model into 2D images following a given or specified format.
