6. About HAL-TAD
Founded - In 1960 to
manufacture HS -748
Products mfg. – over 500 aircrafts
Rotables mfg. – 400 types
Extensive facility- for repairing,
overhauling, modification
7. “How to reduce repainting in
aircraft equipment and rotables”
8. To reduce re-painting we have to focus on following
points-
To ensure about previous operation done
Properly follow all aircraft painting standards
Storage of aircraft
Why we painting it.
etching
Surface treatment
N.D.T.
Electroplating
and masking
Priming and
painting
For etching we have two
methods-
1.Chemical stripping
2.Dry stripping
9. Painting
Reasons of painting-:
Protect skin and structure from corrosion.
Top coat provides an abrasion and fluid resisting cover
to the primer.
The decorating finish.
To save surfaces from filliform corrosion
THE CORROSION WHICH FORMS IN FINE FILAMENT
IS KNOWN AS FILLIFORM CORROSION.
12. PAINTING
1.Cleaning -:
a) Using PCE [per chloro ethelene] solution
b) Use of cotton rags for skin cleaning
c) After solvent cleaning we treated it with
deoxidine -202, restodine-624 with brush
d) After leaving 20 min we wash off with jet
pressure of water
13. Painting
2.Anodizing- it is an electrochemical process that converts the
metal surface into decorative durable corrosion-resistant, anodic
oxidize finish.
• Provide better glue-ability.
• Improved paint adhesion.
TYPES OF ANODIZING
1. CHROMIC ACID ANODIZING- GOOD FOR TIGHT TOLERANCE PARTS AND
PROVIDE PAINT BASE
2. SULFURIC ACID ANODIZING- USED TO ANODIZE HYDRAULIC PARTS
3. HARD ANODIZING- NOT USED IN HAL KANPUR
14. 3.Priming-: it is a process of surface preparation.
a) Wash primer - 1 coat of 0.013 mm
b) Epoxy primer – popular for use under urethane &
polyurethane coating.
Wash primers are water-thin coatings of phosphoric acid in
solutions of vinyl butyral resin, alcohol, and other
ingredients.
Epoxy is a synthetic, thermosetting resin that produces
tough, hard, chemical-resistant coatings and adhesives
15. 4. Painting And Condition Of Painting-:
The topcoat finish is applied to protect the
exposed surfaces from corrosion and
deterioration.
Paint has three components:
1. Resin as coating material
2. Pigment for color
3. Solvents to reduce viscosity
16. Temperature and humidity table
HUMIDTY 90g per kg of DA
R.H. 57%
TEMP. 70° Fahrenheit~21.1°C
IF R.H. 49%
TEMP. 75° Fahrenheit~23.9°C
17. Project Result
To reduce repainting we have to
follow international painting standards.
Cover and mask the part which we have painted and also
those which we have not to paint.
Painting booth should be closed and fulfill all basic
needs to paint.
18. Conclusion
HAL being the premier aircraft manufacturers are not that productive.
The reasons for this are :-
# Demotivating workspace environment
# Lack of planning in setting up of short term objectives.
# Lack of monitoring and regulation.
# Multiple Unions that cause disruption of work.
# Lack of proper training facilities.
# Hiring done only on basis of merit.
