Introduction
"What travel teaches us is that we are all essentially the same. There is not a 'them' and
an 'us'; there is really only 'us.'" The stunning photographs capture the theme of places of
visit. A good coffee table books serve a number of purposes: they're decorative,
informative, and attractive.
Objectives of Project
1. To introduce the Western and Eastern culture and civilization through an
overview of archeological discoveries, ancient monuments, artworks, philosophy
and achievement of great leaders from prehistoric to present.
2. To show basic skills on enquiry, investigation, application and presentation of
relevant information.
Learning Outcome
1. Able to describe the historical development of human civilization.
2. Able to recall the development of Eastern and Western human civilizations in the
past as well as present.
3. Able to demonstrate good documentation and presentation skills.
Tasks
Part I: You are required to do a literature research on places of interest of your site
visit. From the literature review, you are to study the theme given and its connection
between the historical, architectural and social aspects of the place. Documenting
the right building, spaces and places with the right content is important in this project. You
are advised to work closely with your tutor to ensure you are on the right track.

Part II: You are to design a graphical expression of your findings in a postcard series
with a proper packaging that complement the final postcard design. The postcard
series will create awareness and educate your audience on the subject matter or focus of
the study. This includes design & layout, purpose, content, writing style, colours and etc.
You are strongly encouraged to meet with us regularly for further assistance.
Submission Requirement
Part I: Compilation of literature review in A4 and comb bound format. (Guidelines of
content will be provided during class)
Part II: Coffee Table Book – A5 format size
Part III : PDF compilation of individual work in a CD* with proper cover and information.

6. Brief Explanation
Theme :
The theme that I had chosen is Architecture in Kuala Lumpur. Architecture is an
art merged with science and technology, acquainted with history, nature and the
future. The architecture of Kuala Lumpur is a blend of old colonial influences,
Asian’s tradition, Malay Islamic inspiration and post modern. For Asian’s tradition
and Malay Islamic inspiration buildings, there are different style of architecture.
Concept : ( Details for Religious Places )
Malaysia is a multi races country. Therefore , we had a lot of different religion
and we had different religious place for respective races to workship at in
Malaysia. There were Hindu Temple , Mosque , Chinese temple and more. Every
religion had their own style of architecture and among all the different religious
place had their own style of design or architecture. For example, there were a lot
of church in Malaysia. But, every church had their own unique design and
arhictecture.
From the postcards, They will be introduced the different design of different type
of religious place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

7. Place of Interest
Kuala Lumpur is not only a city which consist of modern building and
skyscrapers, but also consist of some traditional places and also Malay Islamic
inspiration building. Among these places, some of them are religious place. After
doing some research on the internet, these were the few places I would like to
visit to have my photo shoot :

8. Research
Masjid Jamek , Jalan Tun Perak
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah officially
opened the mosque in 1909, two years after construction was completed. The
mosque was built on the first Malay burial ground in the city. Before the national
mosque, Masjid Negara, was opened in 1965, Masjid Jamek served as Kuala
Lumpur's main mosque. The architect was Arthur Benison Hubback.
Holy Rosary Church, Jalan Tun Sambanthan
Little is recorded of the history of the church. But of what little is known,
we get the glimpse of the missionary spirit at the turn of the century which led to
the building of the Holy Rosary Church, and the growth of the church in keeping
with the development of Kuala Lumpur. The Holy Rosary Church with its very

9. pretty Gothic architecture was constructed by Father Francis Emile Terrien, a
French missionary.In 1903 Father Terrien was in charge of the Catholic Chinese
community in Kuala Lumpur with the special mission of building a new church.
He was assisted by Father Lambert.
Guan Di Temple
Once of the most impressive Chinese temples in Kuala Lumpur is the
Guan Di Temple (also known as Kuan Ti Temple); a beautiful Taoist temple.
Tourists that visit Chinatown can easily walk to Jalan Tun H. S. Lee, a small
street parallel to the busy Petaling Street. Upon entering you will experience
many locals praying and worshipping Guan Di.
Sin Sze Si Ya Temple

10. Sin Sze Si Ya Temple is the temple built by Yap Ah Loy's workers. The
information board at the front entrance says "The Sin Sze Si Ya Temple was
founded in 1864 by Kapitan Yap Ah Loy, it is dedicated to patron deities of Sin
Sze Ya and Si Sze Ya. The deities has guided Kapitan Yap Ah Loy to defeat the
enemies and defend Kuala Lumpur during the civil war (1870-1873). The temple
has witnessed the birth and growth of our great city Kuala Lumpur." This Temple
also known as “Sze Yah Temple”.
San Jiao Tang
San Jiao Tang also as known as Sam Kow Tong. Sam Kow Tong Temple is next
to Sydney Lake and is located in Malaysia ... Atrium of Kuala Lumpur Sentral
Railway Station (KL Sentral).
Guan Yin Temple

11. A little temple at the KLCC end of Jalan Ampang that usually goes
unnoticed by many people who come to this part of town. This temple is better
known as Kun Yam Thong (literally Guan Yin's Hall) in Cantonese, but the name
on the signboard says Deng Bi An (登彼岸) which means stepping to the other
shore. True enough, stepping into the temple grounds makes you feel like you
have been transported away from the hustle and bustle of KLCC and the city
roads into a tranquil garden of peace and serenity; unless you happen to go on
the first or the fifteen of the lunar month or any of the deities celebrations days -
where the atmosphere is more festive.
Sri Mahamariamman Temple
The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is the oldest and richest Hindu
temple in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Founded in 1873, it is situated at edge
ofChinatown in Jalan Bandar (formerly High Street). In 1968, a new structure was
built, featuring the ornate 'Raja Gopuram' tower in the style of South Indian
temples. From its inception, the temple provided an important place of
worship for early Indian immigrants and is now an important cultural and national
heritage.

12. Thean Hou Temple
The Thean Hou Temple is a landmark six-tiered Chinese temple in Kuala
Lumpur. It is located on a 1.67 acres (6,760 m²) of land atop Robson Heights
along Lorong Bellamy, overlooking Jalan Syed Putra (Federal Highway). It was
completed in 1987 and officially opened in 1989. The property belongs to and is
run by the Selangor & Federal Territory Hainan
Association (Persatuan Hainan Selangor &Wilayah Persekutuan). The temple,
built by the Hainanese community living in Kuala Lumpur, is dedicated to
Goddess Tian Hou (The Heavenly Mother).
