8. Avoiding interference with English
• Lo and la mean it only when it functions as a
direct object of the verb
• When it is the subject of a sentence, the Spanish
subject pronoun is omitted.
• ¿Lo ves? Do you see it?
• No, no lo veo. No, I don’t see it.
BUT
• No está aquí. It is not here.
• Es bonito. It is pretty.
