Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born
On 15th October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil
Nadu. His father Jainulabdeen was boat owner
& his mother was housewife. In his school ,he
describes as sincere ,bright &a hardworking
student who had a strong desire to learn &
spend hours in his studies, especially math's.

After completing his school Rameswaram
Elementary School, he went on to graduate
In Physics at St. Josephs Collage, but was not
very interested about this. So he moved to
Madras in 1955 to study Aerospace Engg.. After
graduating fromMadras Institute Of Technology,
Kalam joined Aeronautical Development
Establishment of Defense Research &
Development Organization as a chief scientist.

He starting his career by designing a small
Helicopter for Indian Army. In 1969 he was
moved to Indian Space Organization where he
was the project director of India's Satellite
vehicle (SLV-III).As chief Executive of Integrated
Guided Missile Development Programme
(IGMDP) , he also plays a major part in
developing many missile including Agni &
Prithvi

 The 5 projects were scheduled to be
completed in a frame of 10 years &consists
of:
 (1)Nag-an anti-tank guided missile.
 (2)Prithvi-a surface to surface battle field
missile.
 (3)Akash-a medium range surface to air
missile.
 (4)Agni-an intermediate range blasting
missile.
 (5) Trishul-a quick reaction surface to air
missile shorter range.

Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam was elected as the
11th precedent of India, succeeding
K.R.Narayan. He won precedential
election in 2002 with an electoral vote of
922,884,surpassing 107,366 votes won by
Lakshmi Sahgal. He served from 25 July
2002 to 25July 2007.

 Achievements-Apart from being a notable
scientist & Engg., Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
served 11th President of India. He is man of
vision, is always full of ideas aimed at the
development of India. He is also referred as
“Missile Man”.
 He is 1st scientist & bachelor to chair the
position of president holding largest
Democracy.

o He begins his day by reading from Bhagwad
Gita.
o He works about 18 hours each day.
o He plays a ‘Rudra Veena’.
o He took leave from work just twice , when his
parents died.
o He is self-confused ‘Ram Bhakt’.
