4. The Concept : “Mea-lam, Our Prayers”
“A picture speaks a thousand words.”
As an artist and a photographer I believe that we can express our
deepest human emotions through a picture. It’s a simple but an honest
concept of paying my humble tribute to His Majesty the Fourth Druk
Gyalpo for His Majesty’s greatest contribution to the Nation and it
citizens during his golden reign.
Proposed Activities :
1.Nationwide Photographic Campaign :
A nationwide photographic campaign in 2015, the Female Sheep Year
to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the Fourth Druk
Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s 60th
Birth Anniversary.
5. The Bhutanese Citizens from different walks of life from all 20 Districts
will partake in the first ever and the largest portrait photographic
initiative to pay our humble tribute and prayer for His Majesty’s long
life and good health.
Mea-lam, Our Prayers is also to celebrate and honour the spirit of “One
Nation, One People”.
Every Bhutanese citizen who will partake in the photographic
campaign will hold the “Tashi Khadar” blessed and conferred by His
Holiness the Je Khenpo and offer our heartiest prayers wearing the
same badge of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and His Majesty the
Fifth Druk Gyalpo symbolizing our deepest respect and heartfelt
gratitude to the golden reign of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and to express
our hopes and prayers for the dynamic reign of our precious Fifth Druk
Gyalpo.
The same “Tashi Khadar” will be shared by all the citizens and revolve
around the country as a symbol of the purity of our prayers and unity
in our dedication to one of the greatest monarch of our Nation.
6. 2. Publication : A Portraiture Book
Mea-lam, Our Prayers will be published as a well designed photography essay
book to mark the Year 2015 as the 60th
Birth Anniversary of His Majesty and to
document and archive the portrait collections of the Bhutanese citizens.
3. Documentary Film :
A short documentary film will be be complied at the end of the photographic
campaign to archive and share the journey in making of the “Mae-lam”, Our
Prayers.
7. 4. Exhibition : Free Open Public Exhibition of “Mea-lam, Our Prayers”
A free Open Public Exhibition of the selected portraits taken during the
Nationwide campaign will be displayed for the general public and school
students at the Clock Tower, Thimphu in collaboration with the Thimphu
Thromde and the 60 BCS coinciding with an important day of the Royal
Government.
8. Project Scope and Duration :
The proposed project will start from 20th
July, coinciding with the First Sermon of Lord Buddha
2015 from Punakha Dzong, the historic ancient capital and place where the First Druk Gyalpo was
enthroned in 1907 and aims to cover all 20 Districts within 90 Days and end in Thimphu the
capital during the Annual Tsechu in Septmeber, 2015.
The tentative schedule of the project and the travel dates are furnished as follows :
9. 5. Photographic Documentation of the WWF, Bhutan Project Sites and
facilities :
The pristine natural environment of Bhutan and its noble conservation policy is
one of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo’s greatest gift not only to the
Bhutanese citizens but to the global biodiversity as a whole. And WWF, Bhutan is
one of the foremost International body to assist and execute the farsighted and
noble vision of His Majesty.
Thus, during the extensive travel within the country, it would be hard to ignore
and not appreciate the world’s most pristine biodiversity and environment. A
photographic and video documentation of the those sites and specifically, the
WWF Bhutan project areas, personnel involved in this great initiatives, parks and
facilities would be an imperative work during my travels to the 20 districts.
The said work will be carried out as per the guidelines, MOU and the
requirements of the office.
