Editor's Notes
A lot of people want a shortcut. I find that the best shortcut is the long way, which is basically two words: work hard . Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted. And expereince is often the most valuable thing you have to offer!
MCI: I was 21, I thought I knew it all, My manager was OLD SCHOOL, by the book.. I was called into her office so many times.. “Shut the Door”.. Kari I am writing you up today… I thought to myself.. Is this woman crazy? Although I worked 60 hours a week, I was written up for leaving at 455pm even though I worked through lunch, came in 2 hours early and was coming back at 7pm after my class. I was written up for working too many hours… can’t she is that I was preventing customer outages and she should be able to justify headcount with the amount of work her team has on their plate? Her leadership style was to treat people the way she wanted to be treated… Lesson learned: She ran a tight ship and wanted each of us to succeed.
Problems present opportunity for growth Successful people have more problems than unsuccessful people
This slide may be called ADVICE or How to Live your Life, but it’s really about how I’ve tried to live mine. I guess it’s my way of saying: Here’s what worked for me. KEY POINTS Great leaders don't lead others to win, they lead others to win together! The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they make the best of everything Her attitude is bad, no body wants to work in an environment that’s bad or icy cold Rome wasn't built in a day.. Yea I know but I wasn't the foreman on that job… (this would be the response of one that is disrespectful of others) Place people in their strength zones Model the behavior you desire If you know it, you control it……Take Risks – Do not Burn Bridges… Life finds a way of coming back to all of us…
