2. Technology Integration
• Rationale:
- Fruits and vegetables are a necessary part of any
balanced diet. Unfortunately, many people do not
eat enough of these to be the healthiest they can
be. By using technology, students can be
introduced to fruits and vegetables in a way they
have not seen them before. They can learn more
about the nutritional value and benefits of eating
a variety of these foods. (Windows Media)
3. Technology Integration cont.
-The goal of this lesson is to teach students about
fruits and vegetables from a scientific perspective to
show that they are an excellent source of vitamins
and minerals to keep their bodies healthy.
-As adults many people have not been exposed to
the growing variety of fruits and vegetables that
have become available to them in their local stores.
Technology would also help students to see and
learn about different types of fruits and vegetables
that may not be familiar to them in their homes.
(Windows Media)
4. Internet Content
-The internet will allow students to learn much
more about why they need to include these foods in
their diet. They can also talk to experts in the field
of nutrition, watch videos, look at pictures, and go
to educational websites.
-The next three slides will give an example of the
types of content on the internet that are available.

This will be useful in teaching about the topic of fruits and vegetables, because it is a great blog for incorporating activities and reading about other people’s ideas. It also links to a fun website for students. This website includes superhero children that get powers from a specific color of fruit and vegetables. It is very interactive and allows students to click on a specific superhero and see which fruits and vegetables give him or her that power, and how.
This podcast is a way to keep students engaged and incorporate technology in the classroom. Students have technology in their lives all the time, so by using this podcast as a teaching tool we can present the material in a way that is interesting to them.
This video will be used to introduce the idea of creating a class garden that will teach the students about seeds, plants, as well as nutrition. By using this video students will be able to better understand how plants grow, as well as where our fruits and vegetables come from. The garden image was taken from “Images” on Google.com. The diagram was created using Kidspiration. How would this diagram/GO be used in an actual lesson? The students would be given this diagram as a handout in the beginning of the unit. I would go over the words with them and tell them that we will be learning about all of the words. Throughout the unit we will refer back to this diagram to review the vocabulary that the students have learned in the lesson. We would go over the words again at the end of the unit and what each one means. 2. How does this visual enhance student understanding of the topic? The visual will enhance the students’ understanding of the topic because it will give them something to refer to during the unit and will become familiar to them as they progress. It will also give them a feeling of accomplishment when they learn a new word on the diagram and can share what it means.
