Kajal's evaluation question 5
1. How did you attract/ address your audience?
EVALUATION
2. Preliminary Task:
One way I believe we attracted our audience was
through the house style. The colours we used and
especially red which stands out would catch the
students attention as it is a bright and bold colour. The
masthead of ‘Rumour Has It…’ would intrigue students
as they would want to know all the gossips and
rumours, due to this being what students are interested
in. We found this information in our target audience
research, which helped us to decide on the content of
the magazine. The main image on the front of the
student magazine would also attract our audience, as
they would see students that they can relate to and so
are more likely to pick up the magazine and read it. The
students on the front page are on the benches and are
smiling and looking smart. We wanted to show the idea
that you can be smart and hard working whilst being
happy in school. The camera shot is a two shot/mid
shot which gives a good view of the students.
3. Main Task:
My target audience for my Rock magazine is Rock music listeners and fans of Rock bands.
This can range from the ages of 16 to late 40’s. Many people of different ages listen to
Rock music as some of the Rock singers themselves are in the late stages of life. This
meant that our magazine had to be in the interests of all ages.
In my music magazine, I believe I attracted my audience by the house style. The colours of
black, white and shades of red are instantly associated with Rock as most Rock magazines
have that colour scheme. This would attract my target audience of Rock music listeners, as
they would see those colours in other magazines such as ‘Classic Rock’, and therefore
believe that ‘Rock Circuit’ is a Rock magazine just by looking at the colours and so pick it
up. In addition, the colour scheme is liked by both male and female, and by all ages from 16
to late 40’s, which will again attract our audience.
4. Moreover, the band that I featured on the front page would also attract
the audience, as fans would see their favourite Rock band on the front
page and so go and look at the magazine, as they want to find out more.
The clothing worn by the band members is very black and intimidating
and is exactly how other Rock singers dress like, so their clothing can be
associated to Rock and so attracting Rock fans who may wear similar
clothing.
The age of the artists can be another factor, which can attract the
audience, as they are quite young and in their early twenties. Being very
young, they are energetic, and they can come up with new ideas for their
music attracting the audience, as the audience may want a twist from the
traditional Rock or just something slightly different.
Additionally, another technique I used is placing a puff in a pug to
grab the audience’s attention and to make them want to buy the
magazine due to being offered more in the magazine. Many other
types and genres of magazines use this technique
5. I also included a pull quote on the double page spread to
catch the reader’s attention of, “On the verge of splitting
up”. Fans of Rock Feathers will see this pull quote while
skimming through the magazine and it would draw their
attention and make them want to read the interview.
Moreover, to write my interview I had to watch previous
interviews of other Rock bands such as Paramore to get an
idea of the sort of language they use. I was slightly surprised
as I was expecting to hear harsher and strong language, but
whilst they were answering the questions, they were normal
and rarely used a rude word only once or twice. To attract my
audience I used the same language as from previous
interviews and I did not put any swearwords, but I did put
some banter between the two artists to brighten the mood
and make it interesting and entertaining for the reader.
